Where shall Turkey spend the Billions in Greek investment?

Postby Paphitis » Thu Feb 11, 2010 4:37 am

This thread is a spin off of Oracle's "Where shall we spend our 10 Billion Euros on"?

http://www.cyprus-forum.com/cyprus28508.html

In this thread, Oracle stupidly refers to Greeks keeping funds in house at least, by investing in Cyprus, instead of seeing it for what it is - a tax dodge from greedy and selfish Greek Investing elites that have contributed to Greece's demise!

"Greek companies will continue to seek new opportunities for investment and joint ventures with Turkish companies, seeking both to tap into the far larger and more lucrative Turkish market,

http://www.invgr.com/invgt.htm

But what about the Billions of Euros Greeks have also invested into Turkish companies, which no doubt pay tax to the Turkish Government!

Perhaps Turkey may spend this money to acquire more weapons, which may even end up in Cyprus!

Perhaps Turkey may spend this money to prop up the "trnc" occupation regime.

(Perhaps DT could also inform us on whether there is any Cypriot investment in Turkey as well.)

There is a growing amount of Cypriot investment in Turkey in some surprising areas, mstly because under the circumstances only Greek or Cypriot companies can perform these activities.

There are other areas as well especially the financial services sector were Western companies were once servicing with software and transaction services, the Greek and Cypriot firms have found that not only can they compete but are also the preffered partner sometimes.

Making an investment in Turkey and doing business in Turkey are 2 separate things however. The National Bank of Greece that acquired Finansbank made an investment in Turkey but the group pays its taxes in Greece, so I'm not sure where National Bank is contributing to Turkey's defense program other than its own subsidiary's tax payments which remain the same as before.

As far as offering a service to the Turkish market, then you're pretty much exporting knowledge rather than importing anything.

And every morning Creon woke up to find that the burial rites had been observed. Antigone had been busy, observing the customary rituals, hiding the rotting flesh lest it offends the gods. But, Creon duly unburied the traitor to expose him to the world ....
