Dude EOKA was extreme right at the core. Their membership was primarily well meaning people , but Grivas was fascist, not extreme right, fascist. He was a blackshirt in Greece during their civil war. Now, had we brought someone from the Communists my guess is it would have been a disaster for Cyprus a la Vietnam. EOKA was set up to implement enosis, after the GC petition organised by the Church. Now if we are going to hide behind blades of grass, that's a different story.

Unless you don't accept people's right to self determination, you need to accept them as freedom fighters. Rightly or wrongly, they wanted the fate of Cyprus to be decided by the Cypriots- we asked nice first.
And the descended from warriors line is retarded. When the campaign started the Brits sacked a lot of well trained, loyal Greek Cypriots and replaced them with Turkish Cypriots as a wedge between them and the general population. This most certainly had a lot to do with increasing the bitterness between the two communities.
You'd also do well to remember that hawks in Turkey were demanding the 'return' of Cyprus to Turkey in the event the UK was going to pull out, before hostilities ever started.

I heard it from the foreing minister of Turkey at the time that the Turks were not interested in Cyprus till early 50s when the British counterpart asked him to be interested.
Lets get our facts right please.
Can some of our bash patriots please explain to us why the mid 50's the GC demonstrators were chanting Eoka Enosis, I may also add that this was years before I was born. Did they really believe that eoka was freedom fighters? That's is a very strange form of freedom fighting, a little bit like Turkey voting for Christmas I would say. So can we have the revisionists stop this nonsense of re-writing GC history and for once in their live actually write something which was remotely true, please.
