In any case the right to a fair trial (incl. tribunal, hearing, etc) is a human right and often people through no fault of their own are deprived of this right due to arcane and obscure court custom and practice. It doesn't seem unreasonable to acknowledge that a person might have problems dealing with an official document issued in a language which they do not speak/read regardless of its content.
in OZ in all arms of government, a translator is provided, and if you have no money legal aid is for free...so human rights are not violated...
were the documents bi-lingo?...if not was a translator provided?...was a translator requested and turned down?...the orams obviously had money so no free legal aid was needed...
have all these been requested prior to the court case?..
something tells me ill advice from their solicitor cost them dearly...their solicitor should have been disbarred....
