I understand that many TC will say this was 'an intervention that guarenteed our survival' but even if this is the case - the event isn't really something to celebrate is it?

Isnt survival something to celebrate?, otheriwse we may not have been here today to put our side of the story accross.

If you want an account of tc living pre 74 may i recommend a book entitled “The Genocide Files” by Harry “Scott” Gibbons.
Written by a London journalist. Whether or not you believe the author is up to you, but a closer version as seen through tc eyes of the pre 74 events is hard to find.

My gardener whos from Turkey gets 50 new turkish lira a day works a 6 days weeks that 300 a week 1200 a month around 400 cyprus pounds, so more than the sri lanken but the wages in the south arent the best in the world for imported labour. Would any Sri Lankens work in the north?? for 150 Cyprus per month im willing to to pay 200 Cyprus per month.

Can any TC of this forum confirm the wages of gardeners from Turkey are 1200 YTL or 400 Cyprus pounds like VP has said? Insan can you verify?

Jeez VP you must be a very rich person, paying 400 pounds a month just for your gardener, what do you pay for your house maid, for your driver, and the rest of your luxuries? In comparison Papadopoulos only pays 550 pounds for the Gardener of his Presidential palace...

The average wage for a cleaner or gardener in the TRNC is around 50YTL per day or around £20 sterling. One working 20 days a month you earn around 1000ytl per month or around £430pm sterling.

By the way, I am turkish , not cypriot.

A person as a "cypriot" does not exist. The english named us like this in order to have everything as they liked. EG english bases. In many ways they achieved this where you have people believing that they are Cypriots, that the Cypriot dialect is a "language " (they only had to read a book on dialects to see that) and that the EOKA was fighting for Cyprus independence

Just to put your mind at rest he only tends my garden once a week so I pay 50YTL for the day (200YTL a month) then he tends other gardens for the remaining 5 days of the week.. but I have a house cleaner once a week as well...but your labour seems much cheaper at 150CYP a month can any other GC confirm this as my GC friends pay 350 CYP per month for their maid and 2 trips home each year, seems like your telling porkies again MicAtCyp???

I don't think this is the norm...I never heard a gardener making 1200 YTL.

We actualy pay our cleaner £15 for a half day (comes once a week). Which makes her daily rate £30 per day. My partner who manages such things assures me the 'going rate' for a cleaner (or gardener) is approx 50YTL per day. Of course they may not work every day in the month but thats the going rate I have been told.

metecyp they make between 1000 and 1200YTL per month depending on how many days a week they work, the going rate is 50YTL per day which is approx 17CYP per day in your money. Why are you suprised, now the workers have been registered and work with permits we have to pay 60YTL a day which is approx 20CYP per day....
