As far as turkish economy and the Cypriot economy go, I can only give you facts that matter to me and my business. There's 240 Billion Euros deposited in Turkish banks providing liquidity, there's 40 BIllion Euros deposited in Cypriot banks providing liquidity in Cyprus.

That comes to about 50,000 EUros per Cypriot and 3,428 EUros per Turkish citizen.

Interesting figures, DT. Any ideas on banking liquidity/Greek citizen? I too hope they manage to make progress, and am pleased with the proposals outlined by Papandreou so far.

If 1974 is anything to go buy, I believe it is the TA that should be very afraid of the Cyprus National Guard, because now, unlike then, we are armed to the teeth.

Right  I will inform TA to be afraid of south cypriot greek national guard. Even the name is so frighthening.

Turks have big mouths:-

This thread is retarded.
First and foremost, Greece ALREADY has troops in Cy, limited under the ceasefire terms. They are NOT ALLOWED to deploy more.
Secondly what will we do with them? They sold us down the river before, as a matter of fact we should be working on getting rid of ALL the Greek regulars from the NG. It's embarassing that only now are baby steps being taken to turn the NG into a 'Cypriot' rather than GC force.
Thirdly we don't have the nuts to escalate the military in Cy
Fourthly we certainly don't have the physical numbers to escalate as far as infantry is concerned
Fifth we don't want war, which explains why there has been not a single act of sabotage in the last 36 yrs against the North (insert wisecrack about flooding here)
Sixth Greek public opinion will not allow their kids to fight our war
Seventh they're financially bankrupt
Eighth their army ain't all that, and most certainly not some kind of European powerhouse- are you for real, dude?
Ninth I don't want to pay for it
Tenth Turkey neither wants to nor can they strategically take the rest, and we sure as cherry pie aren't invading the North.
Actually what I think the RoC needs to do is remove all artillery, air force and armored troops from the NG and fall back to a purely light infantry solution, which is far cheaper and more effective in the event of some unlikely conflict.
Paphiti, if you want to see the true set-up ask your local NG kid on the Green Line about Turkish vs Cypriot policies in the event of an unauthorised person in the UN zone approaching.

We are too small to fight a war in the traditional way and Greece can not help. We should concentrate on chemical and biological weapons. Today it is actually possible to create viruses that can damage people of only certain genetic code. These are the weapons we should be developing!
