Creeping recognition, Freudian slip or poke in the eye?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Creeping recognition, Freudian slip or poke in the eye?

Postby vaughanwilliams » Mon Feb 01, 2010 3:08 pm

I'd have a word with Mr. Moon if I was you guys.

Take a look at:

http://www.famagusta-gazette.com/defaul ... te&he=.com

Where in one sentence - "...their Excellencies Mr (Demetris) Christofias and Mr (Mehmet Ali)Talat ..." - elevates Mr. Talat to a President (Excellency) and then in the same breath levels them both with a plain Mr.

Was this creeping recognition, a Freudian slip or just an old fashioned poke in the eye?

You're so uncouth!

The term "Excellency" was used (both times) to address them as leaders of their communities. It's not a term of office.

You can read something into the fact he addressed Christofias FIRST, though

I think it's quite lame to infer such a thing from the statement, plus you're assuming Turkey actually wants recognition of the north. Recognition is a threat to Turkey's stronghold, why would they want it?

Excellency http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excellency

Alphabetical (Christfias before Talat) plus he was in Larnaca when he said it. He wouldn't be that rude!

Such honorific titles are very important. Try calling HM the Queen just plain Liz and you'll see what I mean.

Show me where I assume any such thing....

I don't think most normal people address others in alphabetical order!

Your Wiki source proves what I was saying. It's not a (one) designated form of address. For instance, it is also used generally for diplomacy!

It wouldn't surprise me if it was a poke in the eye....

Didn't anyone read the hysteria from the GC side when they heard of his visit? :? One politician even went as far as saying "if he's coming to pressure our side as well, then the president should not accept this process. If he's coming to pressure the other side, he's welcome."

As in 2004 and EU admission, GCs have been given another incentive NOT to take the talks seriously with the Orams judgement. They're playing a similar game this time by dragging the talks till Talat loses elections, so they can shift the whole blame on the TCs and sue us into oblivion...

Why else were they so defensive over Bans visit?!? So much so that they were talking some bs about "we will not for impression sakes play this PR game of Mr Downer or anyone elses."

Why are they afraid of even showing a good impression? :?

They do when they are reading prepared scripts.

So Mr. Talat is a diplomat now? Of which State? The TRNC?
