Didn't anyone read the hysteria from the GC side when they heard of his visit?
One politician even went as far as saying "if he's coming to pressure our side as well, then the president should not accept this process. If he's coming to pressure the other side, he's welcome."
As in 2004 and EU admission, GCs have been given another incentive NOT to take the talks seriously with the Orams judgement. They're playing a similar game this time by dragging the talks till Talat loses elections, so they can shift the whole blame on the TCs and sue us into oblivion...
Why else were they so defensive over Bans visit?!? So much so that they were talking some bs about "we will not for impression sakes play this PR game of Mr Downer or anyone elses."
Why are they afraid of even showing a good impression?
You are totally driven by Turkish Propaganda T_C.
There was tiny progress in the negotiations on the issue of power sharing ONLY. That was the only issue on which the GC side had something to give, in fact she gave it all and still the Turkish side wants more.
There has been absolutely no agreement on any of the difficult issues. The initial intention of the local UN representative was not just to invite the UNSG but to have a fiest here forcing Christofias to sign an interim agreement as if the Cyprus problem was solved half way!! That would serve 2 purposes.
a)Bind the GC side to whatever she already gave without getting anything in return. Typical method followed by Denktash in the past.
b)Save face for Talat and help him win the elections.
Point (a) was rejected, so the UNSG was once again ridiculed by those who oblidged him to come to just serve point (b) to whatever near zero degree it has served it.
It was a fiasco!
