Cyprus Breaking News: Orams appeal dismissed

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE 29.JAN.10

An application by David and Linda Orams to appeal the ruling of the British Court of Appeal in the Apostolides v Orams case has been dismissed.

Meletis Apostolides` lawyer Constantis Kandounas explained that in the United Kingdom the interested party must first be granted permission by the Court of Appeal in order to file an appeal.

The Court of Appeal ruled that a decision by a Cypriot court, in connection with claims relating to Greek Cypriot owned property in Cyprus’ northern Turkish occupied areas, must be executed.

The Cypriot court had ordered the Orams to pay compensation to Apostolides, demolish the holiday home they had built on his land in the Turkish occupied village of Lapithos, halt all intervention on the said property and deliver it to its legal owner.

It was hardly surprising considering the only way they would allow it is if there was new evidence that was not available for the case.

This isn't the end of it, surely. Their expert Turkish lawyers are bound to advise them to appeal against the decision by the British Court of Appeal not to allow the appeal to stand. And if that appeal to appeal is rejected, to appeal. Do you think the Orams are appealing?

Contempt of court is a serious matter in civilised countries. I do hope the people making these decisions have thought these things through. I'd hate to see Talat detained next time he lands in the UK, unless its for claiming political asylum.

this is exactly the attitude the world is letting the turks have by letting them get away with anything and do what they want without enforcing any laws, they think they are gods and can do anything and have no problems which is why they are doing just that because they know they get away with it.. though its just making the turks look worse eventually they will have no one to turn to

You should try and understand why no action is taken against Turkey when it comes to GCs, no one gives a shit.

It's not the government he needs to worry about, Palio, he has far more to fear from fascist. I dread to think what they would do to him if they get hold of him or his lawyer.
