I hope that, now the Orams case has set a precedent, Turkish Cypriots will also pursue their legitmate rights through the international courts.

In the free parts of Cyprus the Turkish Cypriot properties were not sold or misappropriated. They are only used to

(1) House the refugees whose own houses were taken by the Turks.
(2) Expropriated by the government to build public infrastructure (roads, schools, airports etc) in the same way that any other property is expropriated.

We have only targeted foreigners in the occupied areas, but if the TCs want to target the GC refugees, then they should be certain that a ton of law suits against TCs will follow and the TCs have a lot more to lose than gain if they start this game.

In fact I hope they will do it, so it will be then be proven beyond any doubt that there was never any such thing as an "exchange" of properties, and that all people want to return to their own homes and they do not want any kind of exchange.

Some Turkish Cypriots allege otherwise, so why do they not now follow the course of action taken by Apostolides and Sofi?

Would you like some JAM on your BREAD and BUTTER as well.

If you were not aware of this, Nezire Sofi is a Turkish Cypriot who has regained what is rightly hers.

Don't you mean, she had sold it because SHE no longer wishes to RETURN?
Indeed I am,as well as being AWARE of your Greek TACTICS.

What has she sold?

Surely, she did not get 500.000 euros for nothing!!
SELLING=COMPENSATION
Would you not agree?

No, in the out of court settlement, Nezire Sofi:

1- secured the return of her land in Larnca, and
2- accepted 500,000 euro in compensation (for having been denied the use of this land).

The outcome would still be the same other then the FIGURES.

Compensation in all such cases, is for loss of enjoyment of their property as a result of the Turkish Invasion.

Compensation does not dissolve legal ownership of any lands belonging to displaced persons as a result of war!

Armed conflicts have often been accompanied by large-scale movements of civilians, both within the borders of a country and across international borders. International humanitarian law expressly prohibits the forced displacement of civilians in both international and non-international armed conflicts, and offers protection should displacement occurs.

http://www.icrc.org/web/eng/siteeng0.ns ... endocument

Convention (IV) relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War. Geneva, 12 August 1949.

Reprisals against protected persons and their property are prohibited.

http://www.icrc.org/ihl.nsf/7c4d08d9b28 ... 1e004aa3c5

And this:

International law says: - You cannot hand out title deeds as you wish for land or property that has been taken with armed force, as though it belonged to you. What did we do? We issued title deeds not only to Turkish Cypriots coming from the south, but also to Turks coming from the north. At this point, let me remind you: until the 1985 TRNC Constitution was adopted, only Usage Certificates were issued rather than title deeds. This was because we opposition Founding Assembly members at the time saw to it that, in accordance with international law, an article was placed in the 1975 TCFS Constitution: - Regardless of any other provision in this Constitution, immovable property abandoned by Greek Cypriots may not be transferred to any natural or corporate person. This article was removed from the 1985 TRNC Constitution and the mad rush to issue title deeds ensued.

I have been looking for some kind of definitive source, too, and have come up with a blank. Being an out-of-court settlement, I suppose the details don't have to be published anywhere. I hope this will set a precedent that will enable people like you and Deniz to speedily get their property back.

Tim, if that was just compensation, this time next year we'll be millionaires judging by how many properties we have.

Regarding the grapevine, I do have 3 in the garden but they are not digital and unable to connect to any source. All I get out off them is some grapes and fantastic leaves for Dolma.

What is the matter everybody.
I have grapes, olives, figs and almonds. But not in Richmond park instead in my back garden not far from it.
When mum and dad used to come to London, they loved the leaves and used to take them back with them.

Piratis wrote:Lies and the usual Turkish propaganda.

First of all, the inter-communal conflict didn't start in 1963, but in 1958, when the TCs attacked GCs and started burning the shops and homes of innocent people on the 7th of June, and with the subsequent massacre of innocent GCs near Gyonelly on the 12th of June 1958.

In the conflict that TCs started some 100s of people from both sides were killed. Where did this person see the "genocide"? Genocide is what the Turks committed against the Armenians where they killed a million and a half of them. And in Cyprus the Turks have killed on several occasions several 1000s and even 10s of thousands of people.

The root of the Cyprus problem is the expansionism of Turkey against our island. Partition was behind the attacks of TCs against GCs in the 1950s, and the same aim remains today. Kucuk (the TC leader) had published a map showing a divided Cyprus from the 1950s, and Denktash said in 1964: "We wish to establish a federal administration in Cyprus. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to move a portion of the Turks from one place to another place and to concentrate our people in certain parts of the island".

The Turks have absolutely no right for any "Turkish state" on territory which has been inhabited by a majority of GCs for 1000s of years. No matter how many conflicts and wars they start, no matter how many crimes and illegalities they commit, no matter how many lies their propaganda makes, the north part of our country will never become theirs. They can only keep it illegally and suffer the consequences. And be sure that the Orams case is just the beginning.
