Don't let the door hit your arse on the way out!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

The sovereignty of Gibraltar has been a major point of contention in Anglo-Spanish relations. Gibraltar was ceded by Spain to the Crown of Great Britain in perpetuity, under the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht, though Spain asserts a claim to the territory and seeks its return. The overwhelming majority of Gibraltarians strongly oppose this, along with any proposal of shared sovereignty. The British government has stated that it is committed to respecting the Gibraltarians' wishes.

I just joined the Cyprus Forum, and I had spent some time reading a number of the sub-forums and threads. The Cyprus Problem thread here was a real eye-opener! Is this 'theme' of name-calling and one-upmanship usual?

Not usually. At least it wasn't like that in the past! We have gone a bit down hill lately, largely as a result of some personal rubbish and irrational and emotional outbursts and popularity contest gang ups on certain other members designed to make them stop posting. We have lost a few descent people due to this!

I see. Well, I suppose that with an issue like Cyprus, there are bound to be a lot of folk like that. At least here in Gibraltar, there is nothing like that. Spain still wants Gibraltar back, but the overwhelming sentiment here is to remain British. Not much in the way of disagreement here

Apart from the fact that Gibraltar rightly belongs to Spain and will get it back one day, whether you like it or not!

BTW Expat, how did you go on C44 forum? Did you get banned there as well?

Just proves that CF is very accommodating after all, despite you fascist ways! Please revel in our free speech and democratic ideals, provided you don't taunt us with swastika style fascist symbols such as the "trnc" flag of shame!

Gibraltar is an excellent strategic presence for the UK in the Western Mediterranean, and the UK's control of Gibraltar keeps Spain from trying anything stupid. It suits the folk here just fine.

I visited Cyprus last year. I liked it very much. Certainly more country to see than Gibraltar!

Well then, there is only one solution!

Cede Gibraltar to the RoC so that we can be sure Britain doesn't do anything stupid like invade Iraq! We will keep those troublesome Spaniards at bay for you!

Where - or what - is beebe, and what is all this hostility? Gibraltar is a British Colony, and I'm proud to be a Gibraltan. As for Cyprus, as I said earlier, I visited there last year. My brother serves at RAF Akrotiri, and he showed me the sights. Is it because of the UK bases there that you're being mad at me about?

Oh, and if you have visited Gibraltar, then you know why I chose "The Rock" as my forum name.
