Your post is full of the most inept, ignorant, semi-digested, disturbingly inaccurate and just downright silly propaganda it has been my misfortune to read on this forum. I can understand if it was written by a Turkish Cypriot partitionist as that is par for the course, but you are English (?) so I don't know what your excuse is for not having at least tried to do some background reading before coming onto a forum about Cyprus to air an opinion.

The sad thing about your post is that you are talking to many Greek Cypriots, who you should assume have some knowledge about the history of Cyprus. There is nothing more embarrassing than someone who knows absolutely nothing about what they are talking about presuming great knowledge about a subject. You come across as just a bit naive, extremely silly and just downright patronising.

I can suggest two places to start if you want to read about the history of Cyprus by two of the most respected modern writers on the subject:

Christopher Hitchens: Hostage to History. Cyprus from the Ottomans to Kissinger (widely available so no excuses).

Read them, digest, take a deep breath and then come back and try again.

Hermes...i am not english, i am Cypriot and proud to be so. I have however been educated in England, and have done enough reading of this subject to have formed my own opinions...not to mention what happened to a lot of my family during the '60s. So i wouldn't bother with a bunch of copying and pasting for my benefit...i am more than capable of doing my own research, but thank you for taking the time it takes to copy and paste.

In the summer of 1570, the Turks struck again, but this time with a full-scale invasion rather than a raid. About 60,000 troops, including cavalry and artillery, under the command of Lala Mustafa Pasha landed unopposed near Limassol on July 2, 1570, and laid siege to Nicosia. In an orgy of victory on the day that the city fell--September 9, 1570--20,000 Nicosians were put to death, and every church, public building, and palace was looted. Word of the massacre spread, and a few days later Mustafa took Kyrenia without having to fire a shot. Famagusta, however, resisted and put up a heroic defense that lasted from September 1570 until August 1571.

In 74 they did more of the same! They again invaded our island and they again brought more of their settlers to our island and gave to them land they stole from us. Just like they did with their first Settlers the so called Turkish "Cypriots". Turkish expansionism is the problem. Otherwise how can you explain the constant invasions and constant transfer of Turks to Cyprus? If it is so easy for the Turks to transfer 10s of thousands of people then why don't they transfer all their Settlers back to Turkey so the problem they created by coming to our island will be solved?

Don't be so fucking patronising. I made the effort to post two references for you one of which involves a simple click of the mouse and half an hour of your time to read, to help you to gain a little knowledge and overcome your catastrophic level of ignorance.

You claim to have read widely but you have somehow managed to learn nothing. You display an alarming level of stupidity for someone with such a high opinion of themselves.

Either make the effort to read some proper history written by real historians or stop wasting everyone's time. Otherwise you simply come across as a rather silly and vacant attention-seeker...

I don't think so!! If you lot weren't so damned greedy in the first place, the turkish army wouldn't have had to intervene in the first place!!

I agree atrocities did occur...but you lot weren't so sqeaky clean either...you did just as much savaging...so please stop whining on about how hard done by you are, it's like listening to a schoolyard bully crying to his mama coz the little guy stuck up for himself, and actually hurt you!!

Just face the facts...your version of 1960's history is sketchy to say the least, maybe it's because if you admitted what you did to the turks in the first place, your arguments would be belly laughed at, and that wouldn't get any of your land back!!

The only thing the turks can blamed for, is becoming complacent, and believing everyone would be able to move forward...they made their point....in fact the fact that they only went as far as nicosia, shows great restraint on their part!!

As for this Orams ruling, yes the battle has been won, but the war is far from over.

If you think i am silly and a vacant attention seeker...why bother to reply and 'help' with your copy and pasting...i already said i wasn't interesting reading anymore. As i have said, i have done a lot of reading and have first hand experience, and now have my own opinions.
