If Turkey accedes to the EU before...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

If Turkey accedes to the EU before...

Postby SKI-preo » Mon Jan 25, 2010 4:43 pm

The Cyprus problem is solved. A Refugee can sue Col. Mustafa from Ankara who is holidaying in his house in Kyrenia in Cyprus, then apply to the relevant Court in Ankara to execute the judgment. The Court in Ankara refuses to execute the writ or other Court order so the refugee applies to the ECJ. Your Honors I respectfully submit to this honorable court that some Turkish Army officer is using my ethnically cleansed house as a holiday house but an EU member state is refusing to execute the writ. Appeal allowed with costs the the trespasser must vacate the premises- Turkey must execute the judgment in the event of a failure to vacate.

Turkish accession is not only about Cyprus! I wish that more GC's can see the geoplitical realities of Europe and the Near East! Not having Turkey in the EU is going to hurt Europe in the long run.

You're right on one thing. Turkish accession is not only about Cyprus. It must meet all the accession criteria as specified by the accession chapters. At the moment Turkey cannot even open a chapter without Cyprus's permission. This is not going to change. The European Union, even if it wanted to, cannot compel a member state to go against its national interests. It operates through unity. At present, Turkey's snail-like accession progress is down largely to Cyprus.

There are many in Europe who won't agree with your last sentence either. But let's not go there for now...
