Breaking News: Orams quit Cyprus house

Linda and David Orams have asked Turkish Cypriot officials for permission to demolish their villa and have packed their belongings.

“We are doing everything we can to empty the property, the 14 days to remove our possessions is our priority,” she told Cyprus Today.

Tonight the couple are reported to be staying with friends in northern Cyprus, after arriving here on Thursday.

“We have absolutely no choice but to obey the judgment to the letter or we will be in very serious trouble in England,” she added.

In contrast to earlier statements, Mrs Orams said she was ‘still looking at ways to challenge the verdict’.

“If the ‘TRNC’ does not allow us to pull down the house, we have to tell the court that, provide evidence and take it from there,” Orams said.

In a separate development, Dervis Eroglu the ‘Prime Minister’ in northern Cyprus said his administration would not allow the house to be demolished.

His sentiments reflect that of most Turkish Cypriots, many saying that nobody within the ‘TRNC’ would undertake the task of bulldozing the property.

If the house is demolished then its great news for Apostolides who’ll have his land back the way it was, and if it doesn’t get demolished then that’s great news too for Apostolides who will have a house to rent!

I don't think demolishing the property is the priority right now. The fact is the Orams can't live in the house, they can't do anything with it and they've had to bugger off. Remember Linda Orams was the woman who told Apostolides that the property was hers now and there was nothing he could do about it. Well the fat greedy cow has got her comeuppance.

I agree with palio. The Orams will not be able to enjoy the benefit of the property. I doubt anyone thought TRNC would rush to grant them permission to demolish. There is still the question of the monies owed to Mr A by them.

My thoughts were that what would happen would depend on whether the Orams were bothered about ever being able to return to the UK and whether they'd want to lose their UK assets. I doubt they fell in love with TRNC, (I've yet to meet anyone who has) they were not living there permanently and retained their UK property.

Little did the greedy Orams know that the shit hole they built in an illegally occupied territory, would cost more than a beachfront on the Riviera!!! Image

Yes that part is a big victory she thought she was cleaver hiding behind the trnc authorities and look where it got her. she was greedy and a B*** and actually thought she would get away with buying stolen land.

so even if the trnc refuses its a success and they can cry and go home to england where they wont lose their home.

I expect 'others' stumped up a lot of the cost of their legal fees regarding all this. They are under a very big spotlight now.

They might be seen as tin pot heros by a few thousand Brits who bought in TRNC (who obviously hoped the Orams would win) but there are many more who see them in a very different light and that spotlight is showing them where they are too.

And I somehow doubt they will enjoy as much support, popularity and fame now they've lost. Lots of ex pat Brits over there were saying the Orams represented all of them (quick enough to be jubilant when they won their case earlier).

They represent all of them in the same situation now - they were the losers. It has been judged that what they did was wrong. Whatever applies to the Orams applies equally to everyone in the same boat.

I should think just the sight of the Orams is enough to make a lot of them feel queasy now.

Won't they? How are they going to pay the compensation, rent and court costs? Candounas's fees alone are said to be around one million euros.

1.3 million that turkey says they will pay for them, they probably DID fall in love with the trnc that is why they paid for the house and wasted 6 years of their life fighting for it. but i think their love for their uk home and/or not wanting to lose it is greater then the trnc home. they already lost one if they lose the uk one they will be homeless and i dont think they want that especially their uk home where they most likely go to visit relatives who cant or maybe dont want to come to cyprus
