But wasn't it only the Turkish side that were saying this judgement WOULD have a bearing on any settlement?
And it is not true to say 'nothing changes'. Things over there have changed a lot. Building has ground to a halt. Unfinished houses everywhere. Hardly anyone wanting to sell can find a buyer - even if selling for less than they paid off plan.
Some up on Safa Koy (Hilltop) have been trying to sell for less than they paid and throwing in all their furniture and fittings.
This judgement is just about the worst thing that could have hit the property developers and estate agents operating in the TRNC.
One of the biggest is advertising for staff and stating that Turkish is not necessary but Russian would be useful lol! Yeah right! Medview has taken on Russian staff and apparently got links over there now.
This was mainly all about Brits buying GC owned land and property. If you think nothing has changed where that is concerned - you are the only one I know who thinks that way.
Why do you think all these people were so jubilant when the Orams won their earlier case? Why did the estate agents slap that news all over their websites to REASSURE potential purchasers? Can't have it both ways. If it was joyous good news when they won - it has to be bad news when they lost!
It shouldn't have a bearing on any Reunification Talks. Why should 10,000 odd chancer (mainly Brit buyers - all prices have always been shown in Sterling - probably less than half of them living there) be the biggest consideration when discussing the future of Cypriots and their country?
If the Brits love Turkey so much, why didn't they buy in Turkey and not TRNC? It ain't far away from it.
Most when being honest will tell you they bought because it was cheap, they were told reunification was a foregone conclusion in a few years and entry into the EU and that their investments would DOUBLE.
