COLONIAL RESISTANCE REMEMBERED

Postby halil » Sun Jan 24, 2010 7:22 pm

The great resistance put up by the TUrkish Cypriots against the British Colonial Rule in Cyprus fifty two years ago and the martyrs who fell during this resistance will be remembered with ceremonies in Nicosia. The first ceremonies to be held in the capital will be on Wednesday the 27th of January at the Nicosia Ataturk Monument and the Kucukkaymakli Cemetery.

The ceremony in front of the Nicosia Ataturk Monument will begin at 9am and wreaths will be laid in accordance to the protocol.

A minutes silence will be observed, shots will be fired and the National Anthem will be sung.

The ceremony at the Kucukkaymakli cemetery will follow suit and the flags will be hoisted to the national anthem.

A speech marking the importance of the day will be delivered by Seyhan Canbaz who is the General Secretary of the Martyrs Families and Retired War Veterans Association.

The ceremony here will come to an end once poems have been read and prayers have been said.

Are these the fallen few that Denktash could have saved but decided their deaths would be useful to him?

No, you'll find they died fighting, one woman run over by a military vehicle. Does that not fit with your perception of TCs being traitors. 3 of them are buried in Lurucina Cemetery, and no doubt will be commemorated too.
You twisted old cow.
Listen out for the gun shots.

BTW .... when you were last asked about these SEVEN so called "martyrs" to colonialism you said:

halil wrote:During this times Turkish Cypriots were making demonstration in Cyprus ''YA TAKSİM YA ÖLÜM'' (PARTİTİON or DIE ) British Troops were trying to stopped those demonstration and there was a also clashes between Turkish Cypriots and British Troops ..........(dates were 27-28 January 1958)

So, they were "martyrs" for TAKSIM, partition of Cyprus, to gift to the Turks, and they had NOTHING whatsoever to do with honouring Cyprus and resisting colonialism!

Who is being unreasonable here RB? The GCs wanted to gift the whole of Cyprus to Greece and the TC just their portion as they had no wish to be part of Greece. Have you lost all sense of fair play. You've spent too long with the GCs, me thinks.

Hi Fred

I think that possibly the key word in your post is Wanted (past tense) that was then, but now is now, and desires for Enosis have waned and changed.

Me too long with GCs !!!! Only 31 and a bit years out of my 54 (just last Friday ) years
