Property Rights and the 1975 Population Exchange Agreement

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Jerry » Sat Jan 23, 2010 3:31 pm

There were several thousand GCs in the north up to 2 years after the invasion. The GCs in my father's villge, Komi Kebir, were told one day they had 48 hours to pack up and leave otherwise they would be removed by force - they left.

First of all, there was no such thing as a "Population Exchange Agreement" like the junk source you quote claims. There was however the Third Vienna Agreement, a copy of which is here...

If the link doesn't work directly, choose it from the list on my website here...

I have already accepted my error and apologised - see the previous page of this thread. However, my arguments have to do with the substance and not the title of the agreement, and I think they remain valid.

We must be VERY careful with our sources because the Turkish Cypriots like to twist all the terminology to suit their ultimate goal. The “population exchange” twist was later extended to an imaginary “property exchange” deception with which they fooled many people into buying stolen properties.

Such is the indecent nature of the average Turkish Cypriot and we must always keep that in mind.

3. The Greek Cypriots at present in the North who, at their own request and without having been subjected to any kind of pressure, wish to move to the South will be permitted to do so.

So when you re-evaluate the situation you can see the GCs vacated of their own freewill and even had the opportunity to return which they choose not to do this puts a whole new perspective on the situation.

But I though they were making claims that they were enthickly cleaned, did I get that wrong? Where is Pyro when you need him?

All a myth YFred, they are experts at twisting facts.

I accept what you are saying, and it is clear that the attempt is being made to draw a parallel with the exchange of populations between Turkey and Greece under the Treaty of Lausanne. I came across this text by chance while researching something else, and because the flag of the RoC appears at the top of the page, I thought this was an official RoC government site!

The text of this agreement must have been examined in the course of various ECHR proceedings and it must have been decided to have no bearing on the property issue, otherwise the ECHR would not have issued the rulings that it has done on this issue.

By August 2, 1975 the ethnic cleansing had taken place. This agreement attempts, post facto, to legitimise an event that had no voluntary basis.

I am here my love!!
Both you and VP are total ignorants.

This agreement was in 1975 not in 1974. It did not concern the 180,000 refugees it concerned the 20,000 GC people who got enclaved in the Karpas Peninsula. Those people STAYED.
Now you tell me how long it took your Regime to reduce their number from 20,000 to 200, and how did they achieve it, i mean what method did they use?

Don't you "love" me dear boy, first of all it was you that wrote enthickly clean, right? Although I can't be bothered to check to see if it was you, and if it was not please forgive me for accusing you of something you did not say. You I am used to being accused of all sorts of things I am not. As to the Karpas region, do you think that 35 years of no real discussion contributed to that fact? thank the roc for that. Secondly, all TPapa had to do in the last negotiations was ask for it and he refused, just in case it becomes a fairer solution and the GCs vote for it.
Either way, you guys don't come out smelling sweet roses with it, do you?
