Driving to work this morning, I was surprised to listen to a news item and a live transmission from Cyprus. I did not hear what part of Cyprus the report was from (but I can guess).

The journalist reporting for LBC 97.3 FM (UK) went to Cyprus to follow up two stories of British expats locking up their pet dogs in their homes and leaving to go back home to the UK.

One family had locked inside the house four Labradors and another a Wolfhound. How sick are these people.

Before I condemn them, I suppose I ought to find out if these stories are in fact true.

Anyone seen anything on the subject?

Deniz, I can tell you for a fact that brits put their cats out on the street when they return to the uk for holidays, then they complain that they get poisoned.

not all of them are like that some put their pets before them and have such love for them. Its the same everywhere not everyone will love or like the animals

The fact remains that they are killed by poison anyway. Normally cats can survive in Cyprus - without the poisonings - if there is a garden.

They should be prosecuted for 'abandonement'.

Unless you're on a farm, why would anyone want to own 4 large dogs? What a disgusting house it must be…

I once met this pretty girl in Australia, and we got along just fine over a few dates so we were heading for a relationship until I visited her house… cats everywhere! I counted about six in the living room but there must’ve been more in other rooms probably having a siesta!

The next day I told her on the phone that I wanted out because I can only handle one or two animals per household…
