What follows is a pathetic description of an honor murder -- described as a suicide. Three shots to the head with an AK 47, pretty tough trick. Mind you, her sister suffered the same fate years ago, another "suicide".

The soft translation below says the weapon was a hunting rifle. It was, in fact, a‘Kalashnikov’ AK-47, according to the original article.

The boy passed her a note that said "I love you" in school, so she had to die? And this is reported like it's ..........normal? Why did the boy set her up? Why did the teacher turn her in? The teacher knew what a note like that meant in an Islamic country.

On the morning of January 7, twelve-year-old Meryem Sökmen went to school as always in Somkaya village near Dogubayazit. She was in the fifth grade. In the fourth class period, a friend handed her a note, which was intercepted by the teacher. The note said, “I love you.” Meryem was so disturbed by this that she went home, while her teacher called her father to the school to give him the note (so as to avoid gossip about Meryem in the school). The next day, Meryem stayed home and in her family’s living room shot herself with her father’s Kalashnikov. Three bullets entered her forehead. Only her mother was home at the time. At the sound of the shots, her mother and neighbors came running. Her father, who wasn’t home at the time, said “If my daughter had told me there was someone she loved, I would have married her to him.”

Meryem’s father is a Kurdish village guard with eight children, four of them girls. It seems that thirteen years ago, another of his daughters, Necla, killed herself as well. She hung herself. (click here for article in Turkish)

I suppose the teacher thought that by making it all aboveboard, no one could whisper that the girl had a secret relationship. Why didn’t the teacher just keep the note or destroy it? (The sex of the note-writer and teacher are not given in the article. I am presuming both are male.) Giving the note to the father, I suppose, would absolve the teacher if the father ever found out about it and blamed him for his daughter’s “debauchment”. Who wrote the note and why? Does that even matter, or is it just the potential gossip that matters?

And what about Necla? Why did she kill herself in 1997, if she did.

i think that may be after the 1st gun shot through the head the girl wouldnt be aple to re fill it then shoot her self twice..

what makes me sad.. is forget about religion here, doesnt the father who i think the one who killed her have feelings!!

It Is very saddening to hear of such news, that there is still countries that treat women like they are walking vaginas and their only purpose in life is to treat men like kings and produce babies and be a slave to man.

This kind of ape thinking. and you are RIGHT how the fuck ( pardon my french) does a little girl of that age pick up such a large gun and shoot herself in the head!?!?!?!? it is long and way to big for a girl to even pick up! the gun was probably bigger then her!

Its obvious that she did not kill herself only a stupid person would believe this.

But for them its normal as you say and maybe lots of things we do seem weird and not normal. I'm not saying its ok to do this, i think its a sick twisted thing to do they put religion over life they have no problem to kill their own child over such a stupid thing. and at that age they say oh yes she is 12 years old if she says i love him they will be married?!?! what the f is wrong with these people?!?!?

trust me fig head the ak-47 when is on rapid fire is hard to control. And when you press it once 3 bullets might go off. This type of guns have 2 modes: single fire, semi-automatic. So if you put it in semi when your press it just shoots bullets 1 after the other 1.

I heard a story by an officer in the army there was a soldier who tried to shoot his leg with this gun and he put it on semi-automatic by accident and he ended having the gun spin inwards and shoot himself.

Too bad for the girl shit happens.

yes but that's the leg.. now put a long gun like that in the arm of a little girl and see if she can position it to her head like that, it wont be easy.

this girl would not have tried to shoot her leg to kill herself.. its very obvious that it was murder..

Yes the leg but it flipped inwards towards his body and upwards taking shots all over his body aswell. and Ak47 comes in different sizes. The are ak47 as long us 40cm. I'v seen this guns.

maybe some new Kalashnikov got burst mode... 1 press fires 3 bullets. M16 has same mode... it fires quick so there is nothing strange in 3 bullet suicide.
