British call for a separate meeting of guarantor powers

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

British call for a separate meeting of guarantor powers

Postby eracles » Tue Jan 19, 2010 12:34 am

An interesting article in its own right, but I was especially interested in this...

http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/n.php? ... 2010-01-18
"The outcome of the meeting will become clear within days, but how to counter the Turkish-Turkish Cypriot PR campaign and the British call for a separate meeting of the “guarantor powers” – that is Greece, Turkey and Britain – to discuss the future of the 1960 security system and guarantees were on the agenda of the working luncheon."

I don't agree with the author's views, having read a number of articles, but he seems to be well connected, previously being accused by Turkish media of leaking the TC proposals.

So is there any other reference to this British call for a discussion on the future of Guarantor powers, presumably with Cyprus not invited?

it will surely iritate turkey because they always want the t/c present to try to upgrade there status as a state and not what they have become a self-infilicting dwindling community.

They can do what they like.

None represent Cyprus today, and only one is an unashamed enemy of peace, human rights and Cyprus.

The EU says no guarantors; Greece says no guarantors and even the Brits mumbled something supporting that (I'll try and find the source). The Turks are on their own.

Edit:

There are some carefully worded offers by GB to distance themselves from guarantees, in this thread:

Ultra democratic and politically correct Britain is sending a peculiar message to the Cypriots when it requests a meeting from which they are excluded.
