USA sending humanitarian releif to Haiti

Postby miltiades » Sun Jan 17, 2010 12:20 pm

""The US government has begun to mobilize what is likely to become a massive humanitarian relief effort to deal with Haiti earthquake damage, rerouting an aircraft carrier and other ships, using aerial reconnaissance planes, and sending assessment teams to arrive later Wednesday."""

The catastrophic earthquake that struck Haiti causing the death of hundreds of thousands , some estimate up to 500,000 , is a major world tragedy , the UN Relief Agency announcing that this is the largest emergency it has ever faced .
The USA , for all its faults , is nevertheless the only super power capable of averting an even bigger scale tragedy with decease , shortage of medical supplies at a crucial state .
There will be some , on this forum , no doubt who will find something negative to say. Well don't , I'm feeling rather aggressive at the moment having just burned my bloody toast and dropped my cup of tea on the carpet whilst rushing to rescue the toast, it was my last slice of Polish bread !

A pretty hopeless attempt according to this report...

Anger at US builds at Port-au-Prince airport

Anger built Saturday at Haiti's US-controlled main airport, where aid flights were still being turned away and poor coordination continued to hamper the relief effort four days on.

"Let's take over the runway," shouted one voice. "We need to send a message to (US President Barack) Obama," cried another.

Control remained in the hands of US forces, who face criticism for the continued disarray at the overwhelmed airfield.

Israel has sent over 40 doctors, 25 nurses and a field hospital capable of treating 500 people, plus a Rescue team of 200.

Maybe Al Qaeda will provide some RPGs and AK47s!

Don’t you find it amazing that a country that has aircraft carriers roaming around the seven continents of the world, and claims to be conducting “nation building” as they call it, has problems getting basic aid to an island just off its shore???

A half hearted response, but enough to fool some of you…

According to whom Santa Claus?

But anyway, as I said elsewhere… killing 400 children in Palestine and many more adults, and then sending doctors to Haiti is nothing but a slap in the face of international justice by a war criminal.

Come on GR, 'half hearted response': $100,000,000 extra Aid on top of the $200,000,000 the US provides to Haiti, annualy plus the provision of 6,000 personnel.

If only the other Superpowers provided such a 'half hearted response', Haiti would be in a lot better position. take for example, oil rich Iran - its contribution (as far as i know) is just 20 tons of supplies!

The US does mnay bad things but to critisise them regardless of their actions makes no sense.

I have read your repetitive views on Palestine, a thousand times before; it is not relevant to Haiti, now get real and put your preducies away.

The US is using the same tactics that underground mobsters do when they give some of their dirty money to charities in an attempt to soften the blow of their crimes and bribe the community!

Childish, is when you provide no link to prove your allegations.
