How I would see a unitary Cypriot State vs partiton.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

It was actually some of the more "debatable" GC's who gave me the suggestion to keep ones options open and look for palatable alternatives. True, I still personally support partition as being the best option (so long as it is agreed partition and that no other country messes things up for either side), but if a unitary state in Cyprus is the only answer (because I don't think federation is the right answer IMHO), at least my "plan" gives GC's what they want (a single state with democracy in the form of the House of Representatives), and TC's what they want (an equal say in the government - via the senate - and not having any chance of the intercommunal conflict re-erupting - through the good offices of the EU).

Are you sure this is ALL that the Tcs want?

VP

we have the division now all we have to do is negotiate how its recognition will take place. BBF with political equality is acceptable to the majority of TCs

I, together with the vast majority of GCs, understand this very well.

Some, though, are harbouring under the illusion that Annan-like solutions are erasing the division rather than recognising and legalising it - and ironically label whoever disagrees with them an enemy of "re-unification"..

..are you there Bananiot?

Turkey will decide on the north and not you when the time comes to choose between the north or the EU. My bet is, she will choose the EU, is the reason why you want to get your BBF now on your terms, but somehow, the GCs will wait until Turkey gives in when ever that may be.!

You are intitled to your opinion and I dont have to agree, time will prove one of us right..Turkey has already stated she will always choose the TRNC over the EU if forced into such a situation.

The question though Viewpoint, and since you know my views on how the TRNC should govern itself, it has to be asked: WHAT IF THE TRNC CHOOSES THE EU OVER TURKEY?

You wont see a unitary Cyprus because the Turks are sabotaging it. I think Christofias should pull out of the discussions because the latest stunt by Talat shows that its all waste of time.

Isn't Talat embarrassed on saying one thing then representing a paper that he knows will never be accepted

Oh yes they will... like a dying old man said to me while we were bunched up on the verandahs of a Limassol school in July 1974… “It’s a storm, and every storm has an end!”
