An old song ..and a glass of wine !

Postby miltiades » Sat Jan 16, 2010 10:00 pm

Saturday night , a bottle of wine a little cheese a guitar and an old song by Kokotas , Oniro Apatilo , in my days as a bouzouki / guitar player I used to play this , one of two songs , the other one being Delfini delfinaki , that my wife and I used to sing together . Yiannis Kalatzis on this one .
First fell in love with Greek music in 1961 shortly after coming to the UK , influenced by a great classical guitarist I met , Julian . Later on I met my wife and already had a bouzouki , she didn't think much of it , its me and the bouzouki I told her , the guitar too , she put up with me , and I was bad in those early days !
"Tha me thimithis" , a great song , what an intro on the piano , what an interpretation by Parios , what an amazing collection of words , how real they all sound , how poignant those words are ! Along with Dinah Washington's "This bitter earth " my favourite song .
Another glass of wine and its off to bed before I bore you all with my sentiments ..

Cutting down, huh!

A late night thought which gets me through:

I cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet.

(... and you know how much I love my Jimmy Choos 8) )

Chin up .....

I know a different version of that...

I cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man who wore Florsheims, and took them off him!

What about this one "Aharisth" by Tsitsanis.

To be fully appreciated, wine will not do. You need at least half a bottle of a good scotch.

Admired him as a great Bouzouki player , not a singer . His singing , including his most famous song " sinnefiasmeni kiriaki " seemed to be coming through his nose.
Too early for scotch !!

I agree, but it's the lyrics more than anything.
