The United Cyprus Peace Initiative, which was formed by 32 Turkish and Greek Cypriot civil society organizations and political parties and which is working for a `United Federal Cyprus` has called for support to its efforts.
The initiative issued a declaration at a press conference at Chateau Status Restaurant in the buffer zone yesterday.
Speaking on behalf of the civil society organizations in South Cyprus, Themos Demetrious said that the elections of Demetris Christofias as the leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration had raised the hopes for a solution.
But, he complained that the talks aimed at bringing a solution to the problem are moving very slowly.
Underlining the need to give momentum to the talks, he said Turks and Greek Cypriots should work together to encourage their leaders towards a solution.
Speaking on behalf of the societies in the TRNC, Sener Elcil said that the division of the island cannot be continued any more and stressed the need to bring about a solution to the Cyprus problem and to set an example for peace in the whole region.
He noted that they maintain their determination to support the peace process.
