‘GREEK CYPRIOTS PLAYING FOR TIME’

Image

Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu has stressed the need for the Greek Cypriot Side to accept the existence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The Prime Minister said that the Greek Cypriot Side should concede the rightfulness of the Turkish Side’s position and sit at the negotiations table by accepting the existence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Mr Eroglu also expressed his disappointment over the comments made by the Greek Cypriot Press claiming that the negotiations would collapse if he is elected as the next President of the TRNC.

Speaking during a visit paid to him today, Prime Minister Eroglu pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot Side has been continuing the talks for years with the aim of bringing a settlement to the Cyprus problem while the Greek Cypriot Side has been playing for time.

Criticizing the Greek Cypriot press for claiming that the negotiations will collapse if he wins the presidential elections in the TRNC, Mr Eroglu said “the talks will surely continue, but it takes two to tango”.

The Prime Minister warned that the TRNC will cease to exist and the Turks of Cyprus will have no chance to survive if concessions are made only by the Turkish Side, adding that the Greek Cypriot Side should concede the rightfulness of the Turkish Side’s position and sit at the negotiations table by accepting the existence of the TRNC.

Stressing that he will not give any concessions on this issue, he underlined the need not to ignore the existence of the Cyprus Turkish people while negotiating an agreement, warning that the opposite would lower the status of the Turks of Cyprus to that of a minority.

Mr Eroglu said that the Greek Cypriot Side – which branded him and the UBP as intransigent, is actually trying to conceal the reality that it has been pursuing an intransigent attitude by rejecting all solution plans put forward until now.

Concede we're right; accept everything we say - and then let's negotiate. Priceless.
