BAN READY TO ENGAGE IN CYPRUS TALKS

Postby halil » Tue Jan 12, 2010 3:15 pm

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has expressed his willingness and readiness to engage himself in the Cyprus negotiation process whenever the time is appropriate. The UN Chief also expressed the hope that during the two rounds of negotiations this month, the leaders of the two communities will be able to agree on longstanding issues.

Replying to questions after the informal briefing of the UN General Assembly on the organization’s agenda for 2010, the UN Chief said he was ``reasonably encouraged by the recent process of negotiations on Cyprus.``
Pointing out that he has spoken with the leaders of both communities in Cyprus and the leaders of other countries, including Turkey, he said `I sincerely hope that they will make significant progress.
Noting that the leaders have met 60 times with the help of his Special Advisor Alexander Downer, Mr Ban said he has been ``urging both leaders that this is the time for them to make decisions on the basis of flexibility and compromise,``.
He stated that the leaders have discussed all the remaining issues and now they are focusing their negotiations on critically important issues. ``I sincerely hope that during the two rounds of negotiations this month they will be able to agree on these longstanding issues` he added.

Why, is there a time limit for the talks.?

The talks will continue long after Talat is gone. If you guys were smart in the north, you would re-elect Talat to continue with the talks, with Turkey's permission, of course.!

So that would mean status quo will continue which would be better than any plan proposed by Turkey, which I'm sure any GC will tell you, well almost all GCs, as the RoC continues to prosper and the north becomes the poor step child of the EU under Eroglu, while Turkey gets left out in the cold with her EU talks..!

Yep, I get it.!

This is a much better option that being forced to become a minority in a GC state run by GCs....plus Turkey is no where near entering the EU for another 10 years or more so she can stand the cold no worries.

Happy negotiations with Eroğlu he dont even speak any English should make interesting viewing when or if he turns up for the opened ended negotiations.

Another nail in the coffin of the "trnc" , besides since you have now confirmed that you are not a Cypriot you should stay out of the affairs surrounding the Cypriot people !
