The Police are contacting all motorcyle owners and instructing them to present their bikes for inspection, along with insurance papers, log book and driving licence.

The Police initially contacted me by telephone and told me to present my bikes and associated paperwork to my local Police station.

Was also informed that bikes now have to have a number plate fitted to the front of the bike as well as the rear.

Could it be related to the execution? Has the bike involved left a clue behind? :?

If it is for that, I would expect it to be targeted at a specific range of bikes, not all of them! Do they want to see my Honda Chaly?

It's a new campaign by the police that started last week and will invite ALL registered motorcycle owners in Cyprus to take their bikes in to be inspected.

what a strange "request"? why invite...
So all the uninsured, untaxed, un registered bikes
driven by the underage, helmetless, licenceless riders can just carry on as usual as they havent been identified.........
maybe its to stop the Yobs out leopetri/sotira way stealing bikes every year and setting fire to them around Christmas/ new year time? Nah dont think so...
Front numberplates were dropped by most countries legislation years ago because of the injuries they could inflict on a pedestrian in the event of a collision, same with bonnet motifs on cars..
perhaps you could ask the police when this piece of legislation was past by the cyprus government, and does it conform to current EU legislation???

I would be more concerned about the figures released at the weekend that 10,000 drivers were found to be over the limit in 2009
and that failing to use seatbelts had also risen as well.

I was not "Invited" to present my bikes for inspection I was "Instructed" to do so.

Ref the front number plate, as advised by the police constable at the time of the inspection. It should not be mounted so it can be read from the side, as they were years ago, but rather it should be mounted so it can be read when viewed from the front of the bike. I was told that self adhesive lettering was acceptable. ie Black lettering on a white background.
