Erdoğan slams Israel for 'disproportionate power'Font Size: Larger|Smaller

Monday, January 11, 2010
ANKARA – Daily News with wires
At a joint press conference with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyiğ Erdoğan lashed out at Israel on Monday, accusing it of threatening peace in the region and using disproportionate force against Palestinians.

He urged Israel to stop violating Lebanon’s airspace and territorial waters and called on the U.N. Security Council to mount the same pressure on Israel as it does on Iran over nuclear armament.

“As Turkey, we can never remain silent in the face of Israel’s attitude … It has disproportionate power and it is using that at will while refusing to abide by U.N. resolutions,” Erdoğan said. “We can never accept this picture.”

For his part, Hariri leveled criticism at Israel and described the Jewish state as an enemy that threatens Lebanon’s security.

There is a difference, Turkey came, helped stop the violence and for the last few decades there has been no further systematic loss of life due to political tension.

If you are looking for hypocracy, I guess you should laugh at the Armenia and Azerbaycan situation. Christofias says recognise Armenian genocide yet doesn't criticise UN resolutions for Armenia to pull back from Azeri territory.

On a darker note however for the GCs & TCs that see unification as the goal. If this is the tone the PM of Turkey is willing to set vis-a-vis a power broker in the region, think how willing he will be to appease RoC protests.

Give it a rest Karakiozi, Turkey had the record for the longest list of violated UN resolutions and violations of neighbours airspace. In fact it is so long the UN need the rest of the Amazon rain forest to supply enough paper to list them all.

He has a F cheek to speak to the israeli like that when he is him slef doing that which he criticises.

he should mind his manners, israel may just see fit to nuke these barstards and rid us once and for all of this trash.

Turkey may be in bed with the USA, but israel is already fucking her!

Dude, not saying Turkey is bereft of hypocracy, it's full of it. It's just funny when GCs come out acting like they are all better than the rest but looked at closely they are the same compost as the rest of the world.

Did I not post the statistics on Cyprus’ global standing in the past, that put you to shame?

Since when has a subjective ranking been gospel?

Arafat & Peres won the nobel peace prize - well done boys - funny this post started with a link to you guys.

Long Term Capital Management had Merton & Scholes on the board which won the nobel prize in economics. Didn't save them from blowing up the company.

etc.

Get the idea - for the world as a whole, the nobel prize is the highest honour one can be bestowed. Gr live up to your name - else people will have to start calling you something else.

I do not disagree with what Erdogan is saying, even though he is just brown nosing to the Arab nations and no matter how hypocritical it may sound that makes him look silly as Israel told Erdogan off not too long ago to stop being a hypocrite, considering Turkey's occupation of northern part of Cyprus taken by brute force. I think what Erdogan is really complaining about is that Israel is the regional power and not Turkey, hence the quote from Erdogan.

“As Turkey, we can never remain silent in the face of Israel’s attitude … It has disproportionate power and it is using that at will while refusing to abide by U.N. resolutions,” Erdoğan said. “We can never accept this picture.”

Is that a hidden plea to Israel's threat against nuclear proliferation in Iran/partner-Turkey?
