Archbishop of Canterbury Condemns Cultural Destruction

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Look. It's not a question of my ignoring anything. The TRNC is not a legal entity therefore it does not exist. You cannot ignore something which isn't there. The "TRNC" is a delusion foisted on the north by the Turkish army. A madman in his cell can claim he is Jesus Christ or Napoleon. That doesn't mean the rest of us have to take him seriously. Do you now understand why the rest of the world won't go along with your delusion? I doubt it. The madman believes his delusions are real and the rest of the world simply can't see what he sees. That is what your posts are like. The deluded ravings of a man in a cell.

If that culture isn’t the Cypriot culture then it has no place on Cyprus. Those TCs who feel that their Ottoman ways or Anatolian ways are at risk of getting lost or whatever, then they should’ve thought of that before coming here uninvited and they’d best get right back to Anatolia at the earliest possible to rekindle them!

There is NO excuse whatsoever, because being Cypriot is NOT about wearing a fez, it’s NOT about Mosques & minarets, it’s NOT about the Turkish culture, and it’s certainly NOT about talking Turkish!

Being Cypriot is about a Cypriot-Greek dialect, it’s about Christianity, it’s about the Cypriot cuisine, and it’s about the Cypriot ways, and those who cannot blend in with the indigenous people of Cyprus had best get out because if they refuse to assimilate, and they refuse to leave, then they’re on a deathwish on borrowed time.

The Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams has described the destruction of the Greek Christian heritage in the northern Turkish occupied part of Cyprus as a tragedy, not only for the island but also for the entire European Union.

The Archbishop was addressing a luncheon hosted by the Cypriot community in Margate in honour of its guest, after a church service for Epiphany Day and the sanctification of water, headed by the Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain Grigorios.

During his speech, Williams said that “much has already been said - and I wouldn’t add a great deal to that - about the situation in which Cyprus still finds itself”. A situation, he added, “in which people are not able to visit, in a natural and routine way, the houses of their families and their ancestors and where, sadly, as some photographs I studied over the years have shown, the long, rich and beautiful Greek Christian heritage of the island have been left to decay or deliberately destroyed.”

“And that is a tragedy not only for Cyprus but the whole of our continent, the whole European family”, he noted. He assured that “we, your friends in the Church of England, continue to offer prayers on that”.

He clearly knows more about it than you do. But that's not a surprise.
