Greece, Denmark, Britain, Sweden, Finland are old Christian nations, which predate the EU and secularism by centuries in some cases. They were hardly going to change their flags when they joined.

I don't suppose any new, "proudly secular", nation would adopt a cross today; unless perhaps in reality they wanted to kick out all the non-Christians, followed by the secularists.

If I wanted to establish a secular state I'd steer clear of religious symbols. If I wanted to establish a Christian state I'd choose a cross symbol. And if I wanted to establish an Islamic state, guess what?

The content can be subjective as you realise with the swastika. But you cannot grasp the irrelevance of your input. To further expand on deniz's point, how does a prickly purple thistle translate into a symbol for Scotland. What does it mean in the context of this thread. NOTHING.
