UN Ban accepts Turkish Cyprus invitation

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

UN Ban accepts Turkish Cyprus invitation

Postby Acikgoz » Fri Jan 08, 2010 6:33 pm

Turkish Cypriot president said he invited UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to Cyprus and Ban accepted invitation.

After paying visits to Belgian capital of Brussels and the Turkish capital of Ankara, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Mehmet Ali Talat returned to his country.

He had meetings with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in Brussels and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.

Speaking to reporters on his talks, Talat said he had informed Barroso on the negotiation process in Cyprus and reminded him of EU's commitments. Talat quoted Barroso as saying that he would do his best on the issue.

Talat said he also held fruitful talks in Ankara, noting that Erdogan and he had discussed Cyprus issue, isolations and economy in their meeting.

For a people that don't exist seems like Talat and the people he represents are a figment of many people's imagination.

Dear oh dear. Have you actually considered that Talat is about to fight an election, that he is behind in the polls and that he is desperate to shore up his credibility in the eyes of the Turkish Cypriots who are poised to kick him out on his arse for looking as if he's trying to reach a compromise solution?

Just for the record. Talat has not invited the UN chief to visit the island and that Ban Ki Moon was planning to visit Cyprus only if there is sufficient progress in talks for a Cyprus settlement.

Happy election!

For me only important point was that we are here and do exist and people are taking talking with us - much to the chagrin of the GC lobbyists.

A polite word from Barroso to tell Talat that he can't have any derogations from EU law and some mild encouragement from the UN Chief to get on with negotiations and you are pissing your pants in gratitude that you might actually exist. Get a life...

You need to discipline that "free thinking" because it's imagining all sorts of things.

Just because Talat exists in 'flesh and blood', it does not mean he exists politically as anything more than the representative of the thieving TCs who illegally occupy 40% of the RoC.

Ban is not going to the "TRNC." Nor has he accepted an invitation to go to Cyprus. He won't go to Cyprus until there's progress in talks. Pay attention.

Immersing yourself in the Turkish press, you'd be forgiven for thinking the carrot of recognition was just ahead...
