GREEK CYPRIOT AND GREEK ORIGIN MEPs WERE INCLUDED IN THE HIGH LEVEL CONTACT GROUP

Greek Cypriot and Greek origin MEPs have been included in the European Parliament’s High Level Contact Group for Relations with the Turkish Cypriots.

The aim of the move – which came as a surprise and caused puzzlement - hasn’t been announced.

According to the ABHaber, the Contact Group will be chaired by Czech MEP Libor Roucek.

Greek MEP Nikolaos Salvarakos and Greek Cypriot origin British MEP Marina Yannakoudakis have been included in the High Level Contact Group for Relations with the TC People but the motive for the inclusion of new members was not announced.

Some European Parliament Observers told ABHaber that the including of Greek Cypriot origin Greek MEPs would overshadow the work being carried out by the Contact Group which is seen insufficient in realizing its objective.

The group is now consist of Czech Libor Roucek,French Fransoise Grossetete, British Graham Watson, Greek origin German Fransizka Keller, Greek Cypriot origin British Marina Yannakoudakis, Spanish Willy Meyer, Greek Nikolaos Salavrakos and Austrian Angelika Werthmann.
