I look forward to the end of the story, (ie 1955 to present day) but may I just add, on the issue of self-determination:
The Cypriot people's right was finally respected in 2004, with their island's entry, as a full member state, to the European Union, with the acquis suspended in the north pending the withdrawal of a foreign occupying army.
Given this turbulent history, characterised by foreign oppression over centuries and continuing to this day by the modern Ottomans, do you think, for one moment, the Cypriot people would accept anything which puts this prized self-determination at risk?
