Why, why YFred? I wasn't even born... The vast majority of Cypriots alive today weren't even born - or were children in 1963.

That is the problem. The oppressor finds it convenient to hide the deed, however the oppressed will maintain alertness to protect the future generations from the same fate.
The hatred is very visible even with this generation even on this forum.

Oppressor? What are you talking about? Turkey is oppressing Cypriots, north and south. Stop spouting nonsense again.

The hatred is due to what Turkey is doing to Cyprus today, and your association with the oppressor. And you'd better believe Cypriots will maintain alertness to protect the future generations from the same fate.

The key to what is happening today,MP,lies in the recent past...
If you refuse to acknowledge those events, and try to make sense of them,
you are doing a disservice to Cyprus...The reason we are stuck in the mud today is because most of the GCs choose to ignore the past events, because they do not reflect positively on them...But ignoring them will not make them go away from the TC collective consciousness...The right thing to do is to examine all aspects of this conflict, learn our lessons, and go forward with those in mind...MP..Think of a turbulent relationship, full of physical and emotional abuse....(dont get defensive here,I am not putting any blame on anyone!) the couple splits us full of bittereness and vindictiveness...a long time passes, with very little direct communication between the couple...No effort to reconcile their past differences,no counselling or reeducation or anything...Than one day one of the partners say "look we have been apart long enough, lets get together again...lets put everything behind, not even think about the past...It was all your fault anyway, but I forgive you...I now have a lovely house and have joined a nice club...Our financial future is secure...Just trust me ,this time we will be very happy....You can tell your big brother to piss off...We dont need him any more...My friends in this new club are all very nice, they will help us along...No,no don't even mention the times I beat the shit out of you....That was a long time ago,and it was your fault anyway, don't forget, your mind might be playing tricks on you, what you think has happened might just be the prodect of your sick mind..... And remember,If your ancestors hadn't come here,we wouldn't be in this mess now...It is really all their fault...What were they doing coming to these lands???"

What do you think is the best way to reunite this couple????
Be honest now, dont answer automatically from your conditioning...Really think about it,and tell me how should this couple go about solving their problems to reunite....

bir the only way you are going to address all these concerns is if you embrace a democtratc system, where the rule of law is upheld and human rights are respected...till such time comes the blame game will continue...simple as that...

everytime i read about bbf and unitary and security and everything else i go back to alex lordos surveys that were done in cyprus in 2005 and 2006 and think to myself why dosent the g/c just take it and drop it in talats lap and tell him to read it and take it to his masters in ankara and look it over.there were many aspects that were agreble to both communities and very thorny topics:
