He said " watch those English girls , they are any one's for a cup of tea " !!!! So excitedly looking forward to offering the first English girl a cup of tea in exchange for the finer things of life I was , just brushed aside the episode in Marseilles and focused on the English girls the taxi driver spoke off. How bloody wrong he was !!!
We are awaiting the next episode impatiently,miltiade....
The more detail the better....What did you do when you first got there? Where did you live?? What was ur first impressions??? What was the first advice your older brother gave you???Your first job???? Your first English kiss??? first real date????
We arrived at Victoria station late night on October 30th 1961 .
It had been a journey of excitement for me any way , a journey that lasted for 6 days that seemed like weeks . I got off the train having collected my one suitcase and a Paploma , a heavy duvet type of bed cover , and headed off to the concourse anxiously waiting for my brother. In those days there was no way that we could communicate , not only mobiles had not been invented but even ordinary phones were rare and far between , even in London.
I drugged my self up to the concourse and waited and waited and waited. Slowly the passengers begun to leave including the three young lads all wishing me the very best and exchanging addresses. I assured them that I would be OK and that my older brother , Rikkos was his name then , would turn up , still waited and everyone had long disappeared , no sign of Rikkos the Plonker yet , I begun to feel a little insecure and was considering getting a taxi to the address that my father had had sawed into the inside of of my coat , and then he appeared , no word of lie the eccentric to be turned up wearing , guess what , a bloody bowler hat just as he is wearing one right now almost 50 years later !!! A very good looking man Eric was , a bit of a heartthrob to the ladies and boy did he have some ladies !
He welcomed me and quickly asked if I had any money !!!!!
As I learned later he was out of work and broke !!
