Misjudgement of EU's Acceptance of Turkey Sinks Leverage

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I'm not saying that R. Denktas (I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy) didn't see an opportunity arise. The end result was the UDI of 1983.

Here's one for you Expat, bear in mind GCs as young as 18 were hanged by the Colonial power for carrying arms.

From Hansard 1958

Police Sergeant Mustafa TunaHC Deb 29 July 1958 vol 592 c1137 1137
§ 38. Mrs. L. Jeger asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what was the charge brought against Police Sergeant Mustafa Tuna in Cyprus; what is the statutory punishment for this offence; why bail was granted to Police Sergeant Tuna, without guarantors; and what are his present whereabouts.

§ Mr. Lennox-Boyd He was arrested for being in possession of a bomb, for which he was liable to imprisonment for life or a lesser punishment. The grant of personal bail lies solely within the discretion of the judge. Mustafa Tuna left Cyprus for Turkey on 8th July.

§ Mrs. Jeger Is the right hon. Gentleman quite satisfied not only that justice was impartially done in this case but that it was seen to be done? Is he aware that this case has caused the gravest misgivings in Cyprus, as an example of apparent favouritism to a Turkish citizen?

§ Mr. Lennox-Boyd It would not be proper for me to comment upon any judicial action taken, but I would certainly say that the fact that this man went to Turkey on a Turkish passport, and therefore escaped further proceedings, is highly unfortunate.

See, this is why your thinking is flawed.

Why is 60% of the Island, which is freely, democratically governed according to EU guidelines for equality and respect of human rights, where so many other ethnic groups feel safe to come and live and work, suddenly lost to you just because you want to pretend it is only for GCs? (to suit your "oh woe is me, poor TC" attitude)

There are many TCs living in Paphos ... you can join them, but you choose NOT to because you secretly yearn for the unjust advantages you had (as an Ottoman ruler/privileged TC) which you perceive as your rights, now "lost".

You are a spoilt child, Bir! To the naughty step with you ...

There you go again,Oracle...Denial of the past, over generalisations, mind reading, furtune telling.... all serious cognitive distortions associated with PTSD...I repeat my plea to you...Get some professional help, letting off steam on this forum is no subtitute for therapy...

None of the above fit with anything I have said. You are not even bothering to read.

If that is your serious answer, than you are not worth debating with as you fail to see the flaws in your "logic".

But, what could I expect .....

You are clearly accusing the (60%) of the RoC as only representing GCs. That is wrong!

Why are present day facts of how people live in Cyprus, a denial of "past events"?

It is a common practice of lunatics to ascribe the same affliction to others. If you are so seriously affected as you constantly imply, please take a rest!

I see you have no reply (again) ... merely diagnosing others with your own afflictions. The only true thing you said was to let us know how unwell you are ... we did not point this out to you first, it seems you knew. Just don't try and pin the cause on Cyprus or you will never get better. There is no need to take you seriously.

But there is every reason to take you seriously, and I will from now on...
You and the other racist provocateur Partitionists are what stands in the way of reunification of our poor Country...I will remind you that at every opportunity...

If I may interject here, the above is the nub of the Cyprus Problem. Both sides see the other as having the upper hand.

Turkish Cypriots say that GCs do not understand how fearful they are because of the way they were treated pre 1974.

Greek Cypriots say that the TCs don't understand how fearful they are OF TURKEY bearing in mind that country's treatment of Greeks for hundreds of years.

The matter is compounded by the fact that Turkish nationalists required the TCs to become victims of the other community in order to achieve their aims - some stupid Greek Cypriots obliged.

You summed it all up really,Jerry...
I have been trying to point this out from the time I joined this Forum...If you have some time go back and read some of my posts from 2005...
But it hasnt worked...The more empathy and compassion I showed the more certain forumers here thought they were absolutley right in their balck and white thinking...So they have forced me to change my attitude...I am now giving them their own medicine back, and they don't like it one bit...It is a bitter pill, but they must be made to swallow it...Our only hope lies in mutual understanding and respect...for that we must be prepared to reexamine our recent history and admit where and when we wnet wrong...I did this time and time again for years...But nothing came back from the other side...Perhaps the new BirKibrisli might make them stop and rethink....Or is that giving certain people too much credit??? :(

Hmmm, that's a good way of putting things, Jerry. And thanks to those stupid Greek Cypriots you mentioned, the situation on the island of partiton and mistrust prevails. Problems are easy to cause but harder to solve...

Another way would be to blame Turkish nationalists who wanted the TCs to become victims of the other community, of course.

Jerry, you are not blaming Expat's friend and hero Denktash by any chance, are you.?

My mate Denky, no he's an angel in disguise.

A picture of Denky posted here recently reminded me that he and my late father share similar facial features, perhaps he is really a Greek in denial, or I'm part TC

Jerry,
have you not heard of the study which has proven the Cypriots share a common gene pool??? We are the same people,mate...We are all Cypriots, distinct from Turks and Greeks of the mainlands...You have as much TC in you as I have GC in me...That is the real tragedy!!!

Bir, you are banging your head against a brick wall as far as the super patriots are concerned. People like Oracle idolise the eoka men pre 1960 and after 1963.
They are nothing short of terrorists without a gun. What is real shame is that Kickapoo actually gives them ammunition. What his agenda is I haven't quite worked out but I do feel that it's not what it seems.
As a Lurucadi I can vouch for the gene pool theory, but you will never convince Oracle of that fact. I actually have GC cousins, and Deniz knows them. Ironically one was an eoka man till 74. When my brother found him few years ago in Anglisia, he refused to talk to him.
So don't get too stressed with the likes of Oracle or Bumbo, they are outright fascist hiding behind human rights. I just hope the majority GC population is not like them if it comes to a vote in April or later.

Not until you really appreciate the fact that the TCs have lost everything in this conflict...And we are on the verge of cultural extinction in the North, and in the dispora...And your harping on about democracy and human rights, and ignoring the period 63-74 when the TCs were treated abismally by the GCs with all the power a state can master,is aiding the cultural and psychosocial genocide of the TC identity...Understand this point and you will understand my anger...Admit that it all started from your demands for ENOSIS with Greece, that was the tool used by the British to drive the wedge between us...Admit that and appologise, else I will not believe you are serious about democracy or human rights,or finding a solution...You are simply bargaining for the best outcome for your side at the inevitable Partition ,which is really the hidden aim of all GC propaganda and arguments...

for the reasons articulated very well by Bananiot,I would have voted for the plan...At least it would give us a new start, fewer Turkish troops, some justice for the refugees, and above all HOPE that finally we could begin the long process of mutual understanding and respect necessary for true unification down the track....You voted NO and as a result we are still here at each others throats 6 years later, fostering bitterness and hatred...
