VP, he will have discussions with the "so called" president of the "so called" TRNC after the "so called" elections. I now believe that the "so called" negotiations on the "so called" Cyprus Problem is "so called" over.
You have a very nice Happy New Year present coming. The TRNC will remain 37.5% and by the end of the year, you will trade with who ever you wish.
Happy new Year to all my friends TC or GC.

You thought all this up with your so-called brain?

Addressing the Nicosia General Hospital staff during an on site visit, President Christofias assured he would struggle for a qualitative solution, which should be functional, viable and based on principles.

He added that if the Turkish Cypriot side presented ''more reasonable positions, more acceptable positions, that would lead to a solution for a true federation with a single sovereignty, a single citizenship and a single international identity, we could surely reach a solution soon and this is our aim.''

President Christofias pointed out that there were ''important aspects'' of the Cyprus problem that would be discussed after the forthcoming so-called elections in the Turkish occupied areas.

Insan, how did the north go from a possible doable for a settlement with the concept of true FederationUnited States Of Cyprus (Kıbrıs Birleşik Devletler) ( modelled after the USA I would imagine) to a complete undoable Confederation like the Annan Plan in two short years. Or were the words "United States" used as a "Bait & Switch" tactics to get the Annan Plan’s disguised partition Confederation in place in 2004, which still seems to be the order of the day today for the north.?

Looks like time is running out on the negotiations, according to Angus Reid Global Monitor:
Angus Reid Global Monitor wrote:Eroglu is Top Contender in Northern Cyprus
January 05, 2010
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Dervis Eroglu could become the next president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, according to a poll by Redborder Research Company. 51 per cent of respondents would vote for the member of the Party of National Unity (UBP) in this year’s election.

Incumbent president Mehmet Ali Talat of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) is a distant second with 29 per cent. 20 per cent of respondents would vote for other candidates or remain undecided.

Relations between the Greek majority and the Turkish minority in Cyprus have been frayed since 1974, when a Greek-sponsored attempt to seize the government was met by military intervention from Turkey. In the skirmish, the Turks gained control of almost two-fifths of the island, which in 1983 declared itself the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The Turkish government has never acknowledged the Greek Cypriot administration. More than 30,000 Turkish soldiers occupy the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

In the April 2005 presidential election, Talat secured 55.8 per cent of the vote, followed by Eroglu with 22.8 per cent. In the April 2009 House of Representatives ballot, the UBP secured 44.07 per cent of the vote and 26 seats, followed by the CTP with 29.15 per cent and 15 mandates.

The president in Northern Cyprus is regarded as the leader of the Turkish community in the island, and acts as chief negotiator in talks with the United Nations (UN) and other international organizations.

On Dec. 30, Eroglu vowed to resume reunification talks after the presidential ballot, declaring, "As there will be no deal before the elections, the negotiations have to continue after the elections."

The next presidential election is expected to take place in April.

Polling Data

Who will you vote for in the presidential election?

Dervis Eroglu (UBP)
51%

Mehmet Ali Talat (CTP)
29%

Other / Not sure
20%

Methodology: Face-to-face interviews with 500 Turkish Cypriot respondents, conducted from Dec. 13 to Dec. 20, 2009. No margin of error was provided.

With whomever Turkey appoints because he/she best suits its strategic interests.

Erdogan managed to push aside Denktash who was an institution within Turkish deep state - he would have no problem replacing either Eroglou or Talat..

Question is whether Turkey prefers to continue to show a "nice" TC face to the EU (in which case Talat will be kept) or is now better served by a hardline image.. so that the helpful and unrelated-to-the-problem Turkey will be politely asked by the EU to exercise its influence on the "bad" Eroglou so that the Cypriots can eventually sort it out amongst themselves..

Looks like there's a 3rd option other than Talat and Eroglu.
