I'm Cypriot and only consider the smoking laws as guidelines that need to be considered for about 1 second before I light up whilst having a social drink with a few mates! :D

In my humble opinion it's all cool with the smoking ban IF club/restaurant owners give smokers a place to smoke so we don't have to all stand out in the cold holding our drinks just to light one up. It doesn't have to be fighting and going to extremes, both sides, non smokers and smokers, have to learn how to live in peace. You can't MAKE someone stop doing something just because there's people who don't like it. I know it's harmfull to other people and i can respect that but if you really want us to think of you non smokers then please think of us smokers too.

Your spite and hatred of smokers is reflected in many of your posts.

It is a shame you don't have the maturity to base your posts on facts instead of your prejudices.

As I've said before, when your ability to drink socially is threatened don't expect smokers to assist you in the fight to allow you to continue to do so.

SMOKERS’ feelings were yesterday mixed regarding the newly enforced no-smoking ban in all public places, with some claiming the law was ‘racist’.

CyBC spoke to a handful of smokers at the capital’s cafés on New Year’s Day and without exception all sat outside in the smoking zone to enjoy a cup of coffee.

Only one smoker said he was happy about the new ban and that it would also benefit non-smokers. Most of the respondents said the law was unfair and that there should have been designated smoking areas indoors for smokers.

“It’s actually racist,” said one man.

According to eyewitnesses authorities carried out spot checks in popular bars, restaurants, clubs and coffee shops including popular haunts such as New Division, Le Café, Aperetivo, Gloria Jean’s and Maze. No violations were reported although this does not mean there were none as police had said proprietors and smokers would be granted leniency on January 1.

“Checks will start being carried out as of today (yesterday) and people will be reported for breaking the law,” a police spokesman said yesterday.

The spokesman said violators of the law faced up to a €2,000 fine at a judge’s discretion.

People wanting to report violations of the smoking law can contact their nearest police stations or the citizen’s line on 1460.

looks like its enforced now

Indeed we always think of the smokers like GR, mum (died 45 yo) Miltis sister(died not old).

Here is something for you to think about.

Image
A normal 'city dwellers' lung showing slight pollution.

Image
Straight lung cancer. The whitish blobs are the cancerous tissue.

Image
A smokers lung (eg possibly a future fate for GR) with Emphysema. God forbid.

You see, we always think of smokers too. They are often our loved ones.

Guess who has to pick up the pieces.

Filthy habit.

I'd do anything to get GR to pack it in. (well, almost anything).

Is the city dweller that donated his lung for the picture any more alive than the others...?

He died of lead poisoning.

We all die, sooner or later. I'd rather the latter and fate does not need us to lend it a hand.

So assuming all the lungs were the same age, not smoking didn't help the city dweller at all?

Perhaps we should ban cities?
