Palio, I'm not a Turkish Cypriot (as I keep repeating), and yes, I do know that the RoCy flag was designed by a Turkish Cypriot. Politically speaking, the flag is quite profound (and I do keep one in my collection of flags). The trouble is that the flag represents an ideal that in essence had ceased to exist in 1963...

Who designed the TRNC flag, I wonder?

I wonder how the TC designer of the flag would feel if he knew his flag was used by killers of his people.

Never a truer word spoken skidmark. The tc designer of the so called "trnc" flag must be horrified to find out that its used by turkish soldiers who butchered his Cypriot compatriots.

I am sure designer of KKTC flag (Turk or TC) is proud of him/herself. ex rep of CY flag will never be used in case agreement is reached. Maybe you should begin designing a flag for the competition. Make sure it will have the blue-white colors with the Greek cross. It will be a pleasure to reject your design.

Surely, Mr. X must have known how the TCs might take the comment? Flags are obviously very important to all Cypriots - even those of other countries like Greece and Turkey.
I needn't remind anyone that a man lost his life in Cyprus trying to take down a flag.

VW. it is a calculated comment and self preservation at the cost of national preservation is at the root of it.

It plays well with the GC population and he just does not give a shit about the TCs. When he first won the election, I actually thought that he cared but he does not. He is more concerned with winning the next election than solving the Cyprus problem.
The only chance we had in solving it is now evaporating before our very eyes.

That information I do not have. All that I know from vexillological sources is that the TRNC flag was the winning entry in a public competition that had 250 entries in all.

On average, there is one change in a national flag somewhere on Earth each month. It can range from a simple change in dimensions or color shading to a total redesign. The RoCy flag may remain unchanged, but you shouldn't bet your life on it. A better design may come up one day.

Look guys the TRNC flag is going nowhere and you all know it, it will stay in place as long as there is no solution which appears to be for a very long time. The only way you can get rid of it is to agree a solution where we agree to get rid of it otherwise you havent got a chance in hell to have it removed.

Can't argue with that logic. The same goes for my own TRNC flag which is hanging from an internal flagpole in my study.
