REACTIONS TO CHRISTOFIAS’S FLAG COMMENTS

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby eracles » Tue Dec 29, 2009 12:29 am

whatever one may think of the 'flag' - that shit that's been daubed over one of Cyprus finest mountain side is just plain wrong - on so many levels.
that people still actually try and defend it is beyond me - hello! :P

Don't worry, Malapapa; I won't get into a vexillological debate again on this forum. You know how I feel about that flag and what it represents, so lets leave it at that.

yes forcing a divorced couple to live together 9 times out of 10 will end up in disaster but thats why either the wife or man move somewhere else..

in this case turkey the occupier who invaded our land like all our other invadores. we eventually got rid of them. accupying and suppresing our people demanding two states.. which they wont get.. turkey should offer the tcs their own state in turkey they would be much happier
they are filling north cy with mainland turks anyway.. so its the same thing

Just so we're clear, the objection expressed by the President of Cyprus was regarding:

the monstrous and mindless defacing of a mountainside in his country

and NOT:

the symbol TCs choose to identify with.

That TC politicians are supposedly unable to see the difference ought to be a cause for concern for those who elect them.

Boomerang, You're a real dick at times! Vexillology is the scientific study of flags and its history. As I am a vexillologist, I know a lot about national flags and their histories, plus I also regularly contribute to various flag web sites and publications. The TRNC flag falls under the "good flag" category because it is (a) a simple design with few colors, (b) uncluttered with any lettering or excessive design elements, (c) distinctive in that it does not match or closely match any other country's flag, and (d) it is easilly identifiable at a distance. The big painted flag is a bit over the top, but given the RoCy policy of TRNC isolation and pretending that the TRNC does not exist, I can understand why the TRNC chose to paint that flag on the mountain.

BTW, the RoCy flag falls into the "Good Flag" category as well. It meets the first four points I mentioned for the TRNC flag, plus the fifth point of political neutrality. IMHO, it would have been perfect for the island had the partnership republic prevailed. Since 1963, its meaning had been undermined by the intercommunal conflict.
