LARNACA AIRPORT ART ????

Postby miltiades » Mon Dec 28, 2009 7:02 am

Travelled to Larnaca airport yesterday to pick my brother up who was arriving from the UK . My first visit to the brand new Larnaca airport and very impressed I might add with the new airport. It indeed looks like a thoroughly modern airport comparable to European standards .
Impressed that is until I came across some grotesquely stupid "art" exhibits , such as a few old suitcases scattered around , a old painted radiator , a plastic container on top of a pedestal containing nothing more than pieces of paper neatly folded in a symmetrical fashion , some other rubbish included a bikini , a real one , neatly worn over a wire figure. What the fuck is the matter with the authorities responsible for this laughable exhibits .
Cyprus has a history and art going back thousands of years these bullshit presented as art is just that , a load of bull .
I suppose another favour to related artists or rather piss artists.

Nothing to become too distressed about mate, just another (very small) example of the influence the West has had (and is having) on the minds and values of those who have allowed themselves to become susceptible to those lesser values (IMHO).

Must say, I am somewhat surprised that YOU (above all others) should be so incensed by such visual pollution (if that be how it should be described) since YOU so clearly epitomize the very influences the West has managed to instill among those who flocked to their side in troubled times.

Try viewing the work a little more objectively, you may even find the matter worthy of 'Debate' (says I)

A few years back in London Museum a certain "artist" showed an exhibit of an unmade bed , scattered along side the bed were a pair of knickers a used durex and an empty cup . It created quite a stir and gained quite a lot of publicity. Of course such exhibit was intentionally created to attract publicity and visitors to the museum , so there was a financial inducement both for the artist and the museum authorities.
However the first class Plonkers who decided on the content of the Larnaca "art" exhibits do not need either publicity or the creation of a stir.
Just a bunch of "piss artists" themselves.

So now, along with 'Posing' as a Cypriot, you profess to be something of an 'Art Critic'.

May we expect a 'Debate' on the subject ?.
