Gay traditionally means 'happy,' but in Modern English it also means homosexual.

It reminded me of when elderly relatives/acquaintances tried to goad me to drink Cognac and Zivania at a gathering of our villagers. Their words were, 'a real man drinks'. I did the opposite and asked them to prove that I was not a man.
