Turkey: occupier or liberator?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby BirKibrisli » Sat Dec 19, 2009 10:02 pm

The treaty which gave Turkey the right to intervene to protect the independence of the RoC was,of course, the one which came with the establishment of the Republic in 1960...Effectively this constitution was violated in 1963 when the TCs was evicted/self-exiled themselves from the government...for 11 years only lip-service was paid to the TC rights in the constitution...By all sides concerned, including Turkey...Was it too difficult in 1963 for Turkey to use her power of guarantee to reinstitute the proper RoC power structure??? Why were the TCs left in limbo all those years and fed on little scraps sent from Turkey??? Why did everyone, especially Turkey and the RoC government turned a blind eye to the plight of the TCs,and sat back and watched them leave the island in their 10s of thousands...?? Insan asks very valid questions??? I myself have been thinking about this lately....After the intervension/invasion of 1974 which RoC government should or could Turkey have reinstated?? The one in 74 or the one in 63 before the troubles????Obviously the one in 74 was a solely GC government, which had little concern about the plight of the TCs....The question to be asked is :Could Turkey in 1974,and with the power of the gun, reinstated the Real,True Republic of Cyprus of 1960-63...???? And if they had, would this have resulted in a different outcome than that of 1963 eventually??? I want to hear the opinions of the GCs on these questions...given the realities in 74 what was the best possible outcome of the Turkish invasion/intervention?????? Realistic answers please....

Bir, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Turkey recognising the government of the RoC between 1963 and 1974, and if so, this is the government that Turkey should have strived to replace after the coup of '74 with the TCs returning to their posts in the government, because despite the 13 point proposals by Makarios, they had not been changed. But no doubt, Denktash was never going to accept Turkey supporting the reinstatement of the RoC government with or without the TC element, or else Küçük and Denktash would not have refuse the request made by Inönü for them to go back to the government after the 1963 problems. The response from the duo was, “they would rather move to Turkey than go back to the RoC government”.!

Fantasies, BirKibrisli, fantasies!

Here are the population numbers of TCs which show that the number of TCs did not go down in the mid 60's as most TCs would like to portray (i.e to blame the RoC) ...

You do it! Since you are the ones making absurd claims against all the evidence. All the data shows there are no significant differences between 1960 and ~1990. Sure there were some economic migrants. But, the significant differences (about 20% drop) came after that period ... coinciding with Turkey's push to change the demographics by colonisation.

Thanks Bir .... u are the one who can make sensible analyst .U can make it because u have been with all those years ....u can see very clearly what was going on . to find the right way they should see like u ....

For my idea Turkey should solve this problem immediately after 74 but unlucky terrorism was again in the streets of Turkey after 74 .They were busy with their internal problems ...they were busy again like Insan post busy with internal problems like 68 on up to 70's.

That is a very interesting graph showing population movements. And there was me thinking you were a scientist, more like scientologist if you ask me.

Go on, idiot. Find the year by year population statistics which prove your point or shut up if you are unable to digest actual evidence which contradicts you and BirKibrisli.
