In modern warfare 90% of war casualties are civilians, 80% of who are women and children, a century ago 90% of war casualties were military personnel.
This is probably true if you take into account all the wars that have occurred in Africa. Rwanda and Sierra Leone would be good examples.
But modern warfare with precision guidance systems, such as those the US, NATO and others possess, tend to limit civilian casualties by design (assuming only military targets are selected of course).
