how fragile is the ceasefire?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

how fragile is the ceasefire?

Cyprus is still at war with Turkey. What would spark a re-ignition of the war?

Another failure to achieve a democratic reunification?

The frustration of Turkey's EU accession?

Only in the ottoman mind could aggression by a nation with a defense budget of $45 billion and a million plus man military against the RoC gain them anything or improve their international standing.

The ceasefire is stable because neither side can reasonably hope to gain anything with a major escalation. In terms of gaining and holding territory, ethnically cleansing it, and getting away with it through great power acquiescence, the occupier has been successful beyond his wildest dreams. Renewed aggression which would threaten the existence of the RoC would create the impression of an Iran of the Mediterranean, Black, and Aegean seas - a situation unlikely to be tolerated by the likes of Russia, Israel, Greece, Bulgaria, to say nothing of Britain, France, and the US.

For the RoC's part, aggression would be lunacy - without (and even with) external support, a military victory would be nigh on impossible, and any aggression would invite a potentially catastrophic retaliation.

I'm pleased that you are wise enough to dismiss the nonsense generated by some on this forum that the ROC could win a war against Turkey .The ROC can defend itself against further military aggression by Turkey but can not seriously expect to launch an all out attack against Turkey as well as having to deal with the T/Cs , settlers and 40 thousand Turkish troops stationed in Cyprus.
Where the ROC can win important battles is in the political arena , such results have already occurred , intensifying the political efforts is a must , Turkey must be never be allowed to sustain the pretence that her presence in Cyprus is one of offering protection to the small minority of T/Cs left on the island. She has embarked on a sustained programme leading to the annexation of the occupied parts of Cyprus .
Cyprus must use ALL political ammunition currently available to avert such a disastrous event from becoming a reality and let it be known that such an act will be ferociously resisted by the Cypriot people .

Unfortunately Turkey has got what it wants. It needs no more and would not dare.

In the back of my mind something niggles me; the threat of a guerilla warfare to gain their losses. I hope my fears are groundless.

We don't need to resort to "guerrilla warfare" ... We are in the EU and should have enormous manpower and resources available to us to free our country from the invader.
