A CF Good Will mission for a 19yo lady.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I shall contact the family here in London , unfortunately I wont be able to do so until the new year.

I think its very noble of Paphitis and I applaud him for that .

Your cynicism is unwarranted. The flaws in your judgement have been going through people's minds. So don't expect much response until this premature act of charity is clarified.

@ Deniz

Act of Charity! ... Troublemaking Turk!

You called me Turk again. Trouble making Greek.

Thanks Miltiades!

I don't see how the family will object, but it is worthwhile getting their input. Needless to say, if they do object, then we will have no choice but to stop.

In the mean time, this worthwhile venture must proceed, with all monies forwarded to the Technical Committee for the Preservation, Physical Protection and Restoration of the Immovable Cultural Heritage of Cyprus, if need be. It is worthwhile coordinating our venture with them regardless.

i just noticed this thread,Paphidis...The title is a bit confusing, that might be why people are not responding...At first reading I thought a young woman was visiting CF on a goodwill mission... :)

I applaud your generosity of spirit, and pledge my support as well... 8)

Count me in also towards making a donation once Milti and Deniz get a clearace from Aydin's Family, Paphitis.

I have a good friend who's son is named, Aydin. I guess the name is a "unisex" one.!

Welcme aboard Bir, Kikapu, DT and Malapapa.

I must say that I am very pleased to have you here supporting this symbolic good will gesture. It is extremely encouraging to have you all driving this initiative.

For the time being, the priority is for Milti or Deniz to establish contact with the family to ensure we remain sensitive to the family's wishes.

After that, we will try to establish contact with the Technical Committee for the Preservation, Physical Protection and Restoration of the Immovable Cultural Heritage in order to coordinate efforts.

In the mean time, it will be nice to have more pledges of support.

Thanks again.

Paphitis, I’ll respond to you in public because I don’t like pm chit-chats…

In 2007, a mixed bunch of people including Erol (Bananiot too?), went to the GC graveyard next to the Kyrenia castle, and over a weekend or two did all the weeding and adhered the broken bits of crosses and tombstones with suitable glue, giving the place a much more presentable facelift.

Today, you’re asking for people to donate money to do what exactly? Buy a single person a $1,000 tombstone while the person next to him is in pieces? :?

Why don’t you go to Erol’s forum and search for the thread using the keywords “graveyard”, “crosses”, and/or “tombstones” to find out how these kind of things are done properly instead of aimlessly dogging people around for money?

Well Bananiot and Erolz should be proud with themselves.

I fully understand that the next grave site might also be in ruins, but there is only so much a dozen or so CF members can do. It is not possible for us to repair every single TC grave site across the country, but such a responsibility should fall upon the Republic of Cyprus Government, despite the fact that the occupation regime has gone one better than us, by not only randomly vandalizing GC cultural sites in occupied Cyprus, but is systematically destroying it as if to remove any evidence of GC historical links to the lands they stole.

I would be quite happy to personally go to the Anglissidhes cemetery with a few mates, you included, to do the exact same thing as Erolz and Bananiot, but alas, that is physically not possible.

What is possible is for a dozen or so CF members to repair the grave of Aydin as a symbolic good will gesture to the TC community and promote reconciliation. If this encourages another dozen or so people to the same thing in occupied Cyprus, then this can only be a good thing.

Whilst the grave next to Aydin may still lay in ruin, Aydin's will not, and it may encourage others such as Bananiot or Erolz to also visit the Anglissidhes cemetery and physically finish off what we started right here. I am certain Bananiot will do this, as I am sure you would as well.

For the time being, we can start with making one minor correction, one minor step in the right direction, and then we can take it from there.

But if you wish to also start up an Anglissidhes cemetery clean up gang, then count me in as well. I am counting on your support in this very symbolic gesture as well.
