Accusations of Atrocities

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Were you a witness to the events of July 1974? At that time, I was a 10-year old living in Tauramanui, New Zealand. A little bit far away from the action...

Were you a witness to anything? :?

It was the 1964 bombings by Turkey over Paphos which made my parents move us to Greece. I've already discussed this with Bir today on another thread

People should speak for themselves!

Well, I witnessed the riotings during the 1991 Springbok Tour in New Zealand, and the 1992 Los Angeles Riots...

Good for you but I couldn't care less ... even if you were one of those racist policemen now posting from jail!

Then maybe I shouldn't care less about you and what you say. But I can't. I need to understand more about the issues, and actually a fair amount of things that you do say gives me food for thought.

Sure, that is the only point I want to make. The time has come to move on, but this can't be done from a position of total denial.

The GCs don't deny the fact that some atrocities have been committed by both sides.

It is the TCs that exagerate the truth and tell blatant lies in an effort to maintain the division of Cyprus. It is they that will not move on, because it is they who demand more political rights than their GC "compatriots" and a Treaty of Guarantee!

I beg to differ. I think there is a lot of denial in both communities.

Not at all. The RoC has come to terms with its demons and this is why we afford and give the TCs many benefits whilst they spit in our faces!

According to Martin Packard, the police at Myrtou police station 'declined to take an interest' when the cold blooded murder of a Turkish Cypriot family of seven in their own home in Liveras in 1964 was reported to them. There is no statute of limitations on murder in the RoC, and it seems that no investigation was ever conducted into this offence. Those responsible for this murder may well still be alive and have got off scot-free. If what you say above is true, a belated investigation should be launched into this and similar events with a view to identifying the culprits. Is this ever going to happen? The truth is that the demons still lurk.

Well said. If former SS guards from WW2 can be put on trial in this day and age then the murderers of Cyprus should be hunted down and brought to justice. People out there know who did what. Sadly I can't see either side issuing arrest warrants or extraditing the worst offenders from GR/TR.

I wonder if the same happens for crimes committed against Germans (or other Axis members) during WW2. (I am just asking - I am not implying that I know the answer). For example the nuclear bombs against civilians in Japan where quite nasty...

Personally I think that all criminals should be brought to justice regardless of how much time passed since they committed the crimes. But I also think that those who initiated the wars carry an additional responsibility.

Oracle does tend to view us rather negatively and reacts to our posts in a very narrow-minded pre-judgemental manner. She is honest, and believes what she says, but is rather quick to jump to conclusions. It is a dissapointing trait from an otherwise intelligent woman.

Those of us who lived through the worst of the Cyprus catastrophy,as a child, and I believe Oracle lived through the 74 events, are suffering from PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) to one degree or another, Expat...
Keep that in mind when judging us... :(

That's where you are mistaken. Oracle was born crazy. That's no acquired disorder it's in her blue trousers (Genes).
