BRITISH BASES IN CYPRUS

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

BRITISH BASES IN CYPRUS

Postby halil » Sat Dec 12, 2009 5:31 pm

NEWS REPORT CLAIMED BRITISH GOVERNMENT PLANS TO SCALE DOWN BRITISH BASES IN CYPRUS.

An exclusive report broadcast on Britain’s Channel 4 news last night claimed that the British government is planning to scale down the British bases in Cyprus.

According to the report, the British government plans to shut down at least one of its air bases on the island and decrease the size of one of its bases.
It said that the Ministry of Defence has discovered an overspend of £6bn over the next decade.

The British government will also announce a package of defence cuts next week, after overspending on large scale military construction projects, the report said.

Channel 4 reported that the British government plans to introduce hundreds of millions of pounds of spending cuts in the department in order to balance the books, the report said.
Last month, the British government had announced that it was prepared to ceed part of its sovereign bases territory on the island to a “united Cyprus” in the event a solution was found to the Cyprus Problem.

Yes, we know. They've been looking for a way to leave without losing face for this Colonial Cyprus-grab since the EU hinted how bad this looks. Conveniently, they have no money also, so it's a good excuse. Although of course, they have plenty for Iraq and Afghanistan.

I hope they don't forget to pay their rent-arrears ... that is also bad-form!

The other EU command issued at the same time was for removal of the Turkish troops.

So, watch this space ... I am sure halil will be the first to inform us of the return to Turkey of the unwelcome troops ....

Cyprus' strategic location makes a total withdrawal unlikely, unfortunately.
