State of play

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby verywitty » Sat Dec 12, 2009 8:49 pm

I must say I am astonished by the Cypriot mentality. It seems to be impossible for the average cypriot to bend his head and think "damn, i might actually be wrong on this one", instead, he might just reinforce his point by saying it's a conspiracy theory straight from the supreme powers. This is just a general statement, I didnt read the article btw!

Mybe the question should be: is the GC always right?

Or maybe the question should be: is might always right?

Unimportant whether GCs are always right. What is important, is that they are right, right now!

The folks who subscribe to that cover it with a certain term: realpolitik.

Indeed. For centuries realpolitik meant the mighty powers of the day did what they wanted to Cyprus.

A new state, only recently securing a level of real autonomy for two thirds of its territory, she is having to learn to play the game quickly.

And now little Cyprus is tying Turkey, the EU and NATO in knots; all with 21st century realpolitik.

Living as you do in an artificial state that is unable to engage directly with the rest of the world, politically or in any other way, it's hardly surprising your understanding of 21st century realpolitik is lacking.
