I'm afraid I agree with Denktash. :(

They tried in 1964 and failed and I remember the talk was about when the next attempt would be, not "if" there would be another attempt.

They are opportunists! Expansionists forever, and the world has to reconsider the position of such a belligerent and self-serving nation such as this synthetic "Turkey" seems to be.

Reminds me of Tony Blairs statement re: the invasion of Iraq: that they still would have invaded whether they found WMD or not.

But I doubt if Turkey had the gall to invade without a 'pretext'. There might have still been time for a political settlement between GCs and TCs - but we will never know.

What denky said is that Turkey would always have interests in Cyprus even if there were no TC's. As long as there was the threat of Enosis with Greece, Turkey would always have had plans for partition.

And now we can see what a lame excuse that was. What is the new excuse for "interest" in Cyprus now Greece and Cyprus have Enosied, together, with all of Europe?

It was pure expansionism wherever (and whenever) Turkey had the opportunity. That there was a Greek connection to exploit, Turkey did. But it could have been anything else.

Just like Turkey encroached on the territory of all those other nations who lived in Turkey for thousands of years beforehand, so she encroached on Cyprus. Did she take the Kurds territory for fear of their Enosis with someone else, or because of expansionist, opportunistic greed?
