The Republican Turkish Party-United Forces has been accepted as an observer member of the Party of European Socialists.

The party won the support of 95 per cent of the delegates in spite Greek Cypriot attempts to block its membership.

The decision was taken at the PES Congress in Prague which was attended by the CTP-BG General Secretary Kutlay Erk and the Secretary for Foreign Relations Erkut Sahali.

The CTP-BG became an observer member of the PES in spite of the attempts by the Greek Cypriot EDEK party headed by Yannagis Omiru, to prevent its membership.

The PES Congress was held with the participation of 1500 party delegates, member organisations, ministers, MEPs, international guests and activists.
